Nice suggestion on the Mondaine, I nearly bought one a while ago. Tissot are another brand that isnt trying to look like other stuff, or possibly Christopher Ward?

I am quite a fan of M&S Wool suits. Much better than Matalan etc ( I know, I've tried the lot).

Have a look at the outlet

There full cotton shirts are very good too.

Re: New Job - New Wardrobe - Help!

I've never had a problem with M&S shirts (or suits). Remember you are going in as a manager - so you need to set the right image - IMHO slightly conservative, not on the bleeding edge of outlandish fashion You can always relax it a bit later when you have been there a while, much harder to claw it back if you create an ...'unfavourable' impression on your first day.

Over-dressed - you can always dress it down

Under-dressed - hard to make it up.

    (All IMHO of course)

Big fan of Charles Tyrwhitt shirts and Ted Baker suits. Not a manager (I'm clinging onto my tech creds as long as I can) but they're smart enough for pretty much everything.

I do. They are not very stylish, boxy fit, poor cut/fabric/stitch quality and over priced for what they are.

Personally, the normal M&S shirts are really baggy. The Autograph ones fit much better, however, they are priced a lot higher. Last year they had a discount for the Father's day weekend, but I think you've missed that this year.

Re: New Job - New Wardrobe - Help!

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, I've still got around a month until I take up my new position so I'm in no rush to buy everything straight away. Some of the stuff on Moss Bros looks decent, same goes for Charles Tyrwhitt. I'm still going to hit the usual high-street retailers (Debenhams, Next, M&S etc etc) but as long as I can get my Mon-Fri shirts for around £100 I'll be happy.

Trousers and ties seem fairly reasonable across the board so I'll have no trouble getting them

One thing I do seem to be struggling with is work shoes... or should I say boots (I prefer boots) but I seem to be having trouble finding a decent pair of black leather ankle boots - Is anyone able to help??

In regards to a watch I've owned a few Christopher Ward London's in the past but I've also been eying up Samsung's new gear range of watches or do you think this would create the "wrong" impression in a professional environment?

    Thanks
    /Rookie

Unless your working in tech, then i'd say it's creating the wrong impression. You can go digital if your that way inclined, but make it something understated, a casio/seiko on a metal braclet.
    The samsung is very large.....

On the boots, don't. I have a pair of clarkes goretx chelsea's that I wear when its absolutely grim, the rest of the time they just make the bottoms of your trousers look weird.

I wear a red suit trimmed with white fur and knee length black boots. No-one ever laughs at me. Give it a go...

Suit wise, go for the best fitting (to your frame) £200-£300 suits from Debenhams, Next etc. Doesn't matter where. It doesn't matter where you work or in what position, you are unlikely to get judged negatively for wearing one of those.
Watch wise, go for what you want as long as it doesn't stick out too much. being understated never counts against you at work

Re: New Job - New Wardrobe - Help!

Shirts I buy where ever I find a sale and like the look of them.
Personally I prefer a double cuff and a tailored cut. Always 100% cotton (ironing is a hassle, but I just prefer the feeling) and always try them on in store, you'd be surprised home much a size can vary in the same store for shirts of different colours.

When it comes to suits I go to Moss Bros, although I may be biased as I use to work there. That said I'm slightly irregularly shaped (think turnip) and their knowledge of the different brands means they always find me a suit that fits well.
If possible, for work suits, try a mix and match range as you can then buy a spare pair of trousers (always the first things to ware out)

As for phones vs watches, I have a few watches that I alternate depending on the outfit (metal strap, leather, black face, digital) but am strongly considering a Android Wear device, just waiting for the MOTO 360
