This is ideally a thread for those interested in the sport.

    get out!!!!!
If you wanted it about sport, and only by those interested in football, it'd be better in Sport, not GD. It's why we have a forum for sport.

In case it's not entirely clear, ...

"General" ==> erm, general, not "sport only", and

"Discussion" ==> erm, actual discussion, exchange of points of view.

The clue is in the forum title.

And, you are posting in threads you wish to post in. I'm posting in threads I wish to post in, and to be honest, whether doing so meets your posting guidelines, or my guess of what you do or don't find pointless, isn't that high up my decision criteria.

So ..... LOL, I find it pointless to post telling me you don't like what I post. You didn't seriously think it wouldn't get a reply along these lines, did you?

It's GD. Not everyone likes football. In fact, a very substantial proportion of the population are bored rigid by it. Get used to it.

Well, I have to disagree -it should really be `in entertainment, as professional football is more about the entertainment business.

The whole World Cup has been about spectacle and maximising profit - football (and other professional 'sports') are just part of the entertainment industry.

So perhaps this thread ought to go into an entertainment forum -for those who are entertained by it.

I must confess to watching some of the World Cup though - the last four moinutes of last night's match. Poor old Argentina, where was Maradona when he was needed - he was a safe pair of hands!

Well then move the thread if its stops you having a moan about how you are not interested in the sport(like it will stop you from others)

Like i said, it is my opinion that you are ranting off in a topic based on the world cup final for people who enjoy watching the sport. It is not a topic about(do u enjoy football as a sport) so again LOL back to you.

Hey you are feel free to rant and rave on topics you dont care about . not saying for you to stop, i am just saying its pointless and stupid to do so on something you have no interest whatsoever.

    Continue as you where

Re: The Official Fifa World Cup Final Match Thread

Well I switched the TV on literally 2 minutes before Germany scored the winning goal towards the end of extra-time. No idea if I missed an exiting but goalless 110min, but I guess it is time efficient. For the final, I was siding towards Germany. For three reasons:

    1. As far as I am concerned, they performed well throughout the tournament and were more deserving of winning.
    2. Nothing personal, but I don't particularly like the idea of an athlete gaining God-like status (keep reading about how Messi would be elevated to such status). I suppose it is mile better than dictator claiming divine status, but there is just something that doesn't sit well with it.
    3. I don't like the idea of giving Argentina more ammunition to rub in an already humiliated Brazil. It's not like I have any attachment for Brazil or any dislike for Argentina, but while I am fine for healthy competition on the pitch I expect players and fans alike to show modesty when they win.

One thing I may never fully understand, is why nationalism seem so strong in sports (and I do not mean just the World Cup / football), to the point of bringing fans to tears. I can understand for the athletes who shed sweat, blood and tears for 4 years waiting for this moment. And for some, this may well be the peak of their performance. But I don't understand how fans can get so emotional..

I got the last 4 minutes too as it started an hour earlier than I thought it would; planned on watching the second half.

Best team won it. Germanie's most impressive skill to me was being able to man mark at set pieces like Italians!

Did the argies target Swiney or was it frustration

Maybe so, but if it's about entertainment, then a representation from those bored rigid by it are entitled to say so. Or not, as they wish.

Now you have moved me from member mode to admin mode.

    Drop this line, right now.

We have rules about insulting other members. Yet here you are dictating to me what I can post and where, and then calling me stupid.

So consider this fair warning - one more remark like that and you won't be posting anywhere on here for a period of time.

You don't get to dictate where others can post, and you most definitely don't get to call me stupid. Be very careful how, and if, you continue this line, because there won't be another warning.

I'm not dictating anything. I said you are free to post. I said that I disagree with the purpose of your post. That is all.

    No harm.

Did not call you stupid either or any name at all.

Meh, I wasn't interested in this World Cup, got bored. I liked the South Africa one though.

I would rather play football myself and win stuff than watching others do it. Much more rewarding and satisfying.

I can only imagine you've never played a competitive game of football in your life. I've seen at least six footballers breaking their legs and in one particular case there was a triple fracture.

Good job I only play 5 a side football where no sliding is allowed, however I did see one of my teammates got elbowed in the face and broke his nose.

That's a bit harsh isn't it? He didn't continue to say anything negative towards you at all, and he is allowed his opinion as much as you are allowed yours (unless it's one rule for us users and another for admins?).

Unless of course he posted something else that has been removed, I see no reason for banning Josh and see this treatment as rather unfair and unlike you.

    It's not up for discussion.
