these events were normal during the cold war - wasn't a day went by without someone flying up to meet a bear or 2 or follow a ship or sub.

now - 30 years later , and our military is vastly smaller - we don't have nimrod`s to wander out over whats left of the SOSUS net if it get s a hit , and they had to sail a frigate from Portsmouth to north Scotland to check up on a Russian destroyer , sitting on the international sea line! took 2 days to get there!

during the 90`s and early 00`s , the Russian military was in a very abd way - well some sharp investment , and the lessons of a war or 3 , and the red bear is back and catching NATO in a bad place.
