As the title suggest's, i am after someone who could do a n7 badge from say a 3d printer....
Long shot but thought i would ask! Thanks guys
Oh and of course i would pay for said work being done
What exactly do you have in mind?
My 3D printer isn't set up for fine detail, I tinker with it too much but don't have the patience to calibrate it each time so the results are somewhat coarse.
But, I had a go anyway, courtesy of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:95247
I may *potentially* still have access to a rubbish, early, self-build model in the office somewhere *but* I won't be back in the office for over a week to check. And it might have failed/been nicked by then.
I can get it a bit sharper but not by much. I can scale the thing as big or small as you want it, the text size including the triangle bit on the one I printed earlier is 43x14 mm.
I'll do it for free because it's a tiny bit of plastic and I'm not going to ask for a few pence. Besides being someone else's work of course.

If you want higher quality, you could try www.shapeways.com ?

Well if you could scale that would be great, heres what i actually wanted...
So the size i would want it is say 9cm x 3.5cm? its a rough guess! Are you sure you don't want anything for it?
Thanks animus always a last port of call if i cannot pull this one off (going to be alot of sanding to get it how i want it haha)
One last thing, what type of program do i need to be able to create something for 3d printing? what files are used?
How thick do you want it? As a quick guess, I've made the base 2mm thick with the text 2mm on top of that, so 4mm thick in to total.
One thing to note, as I haven't perfected the nozzle height and feed rate, there may be some light to moderate hiccups on the back of the print, i.e. where it sits on the print bed. I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Practically all modern CAD programs can export STL files, it's a popular standard used for 3D printing. I've used Blender, AutoCAD and SketchUp, the latter my favourite as it's the simplest and fastest tool for what I do.

Here's the result, it's as good as I can make it without some serious tinkering.
Exactly 90 x 35 x 5mm, unflattering photo, looks a bit better IRL.
If you still want it, PM your address and I'll pop it in the post on Monday.

Indeed, great community always willing to help, DDY has helped me out and now I have the badge I needed for my mod

Thanks for the comments.
I think I need to revive my 3D printer build log, I've done so much since then.
EDIT: Razer your PM box is full, I've got a message waiting for you.

That is quite cool, great work DDY!
On a different note, has everyone seen the 3d printing movie on Netflix? Quite interesting I thought.

Cool to see people helping each other out and the final product looks awesome!
This is a bit late to help razer but it may help others wanting to 3D print their own things - There is a project in Manchester called "Fab Lab" (http://www.fablabmanchester.org/) where you can go and print your own things using their 3D printers (and other fabrication tech too) complete free of charge. For something this small you could use their free offcut materiels too most likely, or you can just take your own. My Raspberry Pi case came from their 3D printer
I think there are similar projects all round the country (definitely in the big cities - Liverpool/Birmingham/London all have similar ventures) so worth a look if you have an idea and a 3D graphic in STL format! The main restriction is that your work must be open source (you have to put details of your project online).
