Should I have my video card repaired or get more RAM?

OK I'm in a crappy situation at the moment. Money is tight but I have 2 things that need doing on this rig.

I have a GTX670 that has died, MicroDirect has shut down, so have to deal direct with Asus, but you have to pay a £20 fee.

Also thanks to them gits, they said they sent a stick of RAM to Corsair for RMA but Corsair have no record of it, so I'm down 4gb RAM.

Games coming out at the moment have me needing to close all applications to stop them switching back to windows saying it's out of RAM, but also Far Cry 4 and Assassins Creed Unity are out soon, and I heard they'll be buggers when it comes to graphics power, so could really benefit from the second card.

So what would people say, pony up for a 4gig stick, or get the card sent in for repair ?

(Paying for games isn't an issue I've got a load of Steam gift cards)

You have one functional GTX670,right?? If so I would get the extra RAM.

Do have to wonder what you're running to use up 4Gb of RAM by default before playing a game. However if money is tight, stick with the cheaper option and spend on the GFx card and get used go switching applications around.

Raise hell in the corsair sub section. This has happened before iirc so do a search.

£20 for a 670 is not so bad.

Re: Should I have my video card repaired or get more RAM?

    £20 for 670, sell 670, get ram.

Then later sell the other 670 and upgrade to a better single GPU like a 780/970.

Ya one is working, and it's peachy and all...I just like being able to turn all settings to high.

Windows 7 ha. Also I don't use a pagefile. Yeah I'm leaning more towards the graphics cards.

Nah I can't say **** to Corsair, it's not their fault. Greybeard checked for me, they have no record of my part being received.

Yeah and it most probably won't be a 670 either, as it's rare to get cards repaired, they tend to just give you updated replacements. If it was a 770 I'd have to find someone with a 670 to swap with, but if it was a 970 (I know it's highly unlikely) I'd just keep the one.

Ha that's pretty good advice, but I won't not have money for much longer. It's my own design, I lost my missus last year and haven't gone back to work, I've not hit that point yet where I can push myself enough to go back. Although getting close, maybe after xmas

Re: Should I have my video card repaired or get more RAM?

Do both, send the GPU back first then save until you can afford to get the RAM next, but deal with the GPU before the warranty expires.

Thanks to the all-glorious Asustoad I have a 3 year warranty. Something I realized, the card won't be returned for at least 3 weeks I reckon, by that time I will have gone through both Assassins Creed and Far Cry 4, think I might just suck it up and wait on the card.

Realized too that my mate has a GTX 680 in his rig that he doesn't use (he has it hooked up to his TV in the family room, which he never got to use so he bought a gaming laptop). Will just swap my 670 for his 680, that'll give me the grunt to get me through.

The card does admirably it's just I heard Creed requires a 680 minimum. I reckon that's BS but the 680 should tide me over.

All this has made me realize I kinda miss money now, might go back to work early. Will be nice to have some money for xmas anywho.
