I'm pretty much up on copyright law but a couple of small points I'm passingly curious about (from looking to buy some books recently)..
1. Where books on Amazon have search inside facility, which implicitly benefits marketplace sellers even though their sales won't directly benefit the author, is that allowed under an umbrella permit because of the author having signed up to the search inside feature..
2. As marketplace sellers can upload their own pictures for all (afaik) books and not just search inside items, how does that work ie how is a) an image of a page containing text from a still-under-copyright work any different from quoting that work, or b) adding a picture of the inside of, say, an art book. I checked amazon's guide for listing books but that doesn't cover this..
3. Taking it further onto sites like ebay, anyone uploading an image from the contents of a book - say to show condition or damage - is just skating under the radar I presume, even though technically, again, 'quoting' from the work?
Just wondering.![]()
