Motivational Speech - Jan 5th 2015
Good morning fellow Hexites
Although the New Year is in theory, well under way.... today is when industry kicks back into "live mode" all across the UK and Europe.
So, lets begin by being positive please? No matter how crap you feel about going into work... at least you ARE going into work.
For those of you looking for work, today is the first day of the beginning, and you must remain positive, organised and focus on your employement plan. HR dept's all round the UK will have meetings and workloads to match, and you might not hear back this week... doesn't mean you cant carry on. You MUST carry on.
For all of you... employed, self employed, un-employed or retired: stay positive. Don't be dragged down by the negativity of the press, nor by the arguments in politics. It DOES effect you, but only if it's true! and only if you let it. So.. don't let it.
And most important, don't let other people in your life bring you down? OK? When you get to the office, or the shop, of wherever your "coal face" is... smack the negativity down hard and put it in it's place. Don't be dragged down by the "oh my Christmas was rubbish" or "here we go again" ... just don't.
Positive people.. stay positive. You're allowed to smile today, to be positive. You're allowed to ask for more work, or take on a problem and deal with it smiling and get a result or die trying. So long as everyone sees you doing it hard, and well.....
You all have all of January to stay like this: lets make January ..good
OK?
Don't listen to the droning-on of miserable work colleagues : OK well, listen to them, and then put them straight.
Today.. this week.. what I dread most is not the work... not the pressures... not the impossibility of some of it. No.. I dread the amount of gloom in people, and I will NOT let it get to me
Nor should you
OK?
Right... speech over.. crack on and make tea, smile, buy someone a coffee and make the world better

Re: Motivational Speech - Jan 5th 2015
These first 2 weeks don't apply to me though.....I start a new job on the 19th (leaving permanent to go contracting *gulp*)....so I really cannot be arsed.

Re: Motivational Speech - Jan 5th 2015
No gloom here - all the counters are reset and I'm ready to take on 2015 and make it my bitch :)

Re: Motivational Speech - Jan 5th 2015
Agree with the sentiment, but would add: rather than just having positive mental attitude, DO something. The people who bring us down do nothing but get fat in front of the TV while making snarky comments about anyone who does sport/exercise/plays an instrument/games/reads/goes to concerts/has hobbies/travels. Life is for living, not watching, no matter what the couch potato goggleboxers think. Get out and DO STUFF!

Re: Motivational Speech - Jan 5th 2015
Also agree with the sentiment. I would add to Wasabi's 'do something' that you should set targets. And I don't mean 'billionaire by March, rule the universe by mid-summer' targets, but reasonable, achievable micro-targets relevant to YOUR circumstances, whatever they may be. It may be a target for today, for this week, for January, or for all three, but set a series of targets that can be achieved. Not necessarily will be, on time, but can be.
Zak pointed out that "today is the first day of the rest .... etc". I'm suggesting a step-by-step approach. If you want to have achieved 'that' by year's end, work out the first step and achieve it by day's or week's end. Then set the next target.
Don't just set the big, grand target, but the steps needed to get there, then get on with the first one. Today. Now. In fact, WTH are you doing still reading this, not getting on with it already? :D
Each micro target achieved is a goal met, a srep on the road and a source of minor satisfaction.
Oh, and expect set-backs. And mistakes. Life wouldn't be life without them. So, use 'em, learn from 'em, be motivated by them and get back at it.
<Here endeth the first, and probably last, lecture. >

I work in the water industry - Our work never stops!
But to keep things positive, my boss is out of office for most of this week and I got issued a new set of uniform today!

Re: Motivational Speech - Jan 5th 2015
No gloom here (well, maybe a little when the alarm went off at 5:45 this morning to mark the first day of my 10k training, but that soon lifted). Into work to handle a pen-test, finish an Exchange 2013 migration and then spent the afternoon booking flights, hotels and a bootcamp for VMware Partner Exchange in San Francisco at the end of the month.
I love my job :)
EDIT: - ok, maybe a little gloom: I've just spotted how low l am on Carvalhos Chilli Pickle. And the guy who made it has now retired :(

Glass usually half full. Rarely unhappy, just some days I'm happier than on others! :)

Re: Motivational Speech - Jan 5th 2015
Not been an ideal start to the year so far, but to be optimistic, the only way is up!

Re: Motivational Speech - Jan 5th 2015
I think this is a good thing, but I managed to finish my 22 pages of physics questions last night :) Feels good now I've got that done. Next, 10 pages to do for tomorrow, and a 1000 word essay :O
Keeping on top of work is so difficult sometimes... Still, half way through the week already!

Re: Motivational Speech - Jan 5th 2015
hmmm, motivational stuff.
well I got a twitter account just to try something new and get over my mass fears of talking to new people. Its somehow working a little bit.
I've done 23 tweets to people and managed to get a total of 1 follower (who isn't my sister) 2 retweets and 51 favourites not including 2 more who are bots.
can't tell if I'm doing it right or not but it scares me a little. :scared:
had a porkchop with cheese and branston pickle on a bap for tea, hmmmmm juicy.
not much else motivational going on.
the tumble dryer exploded, gutter blew off the roof, rear tyres on dads car failed MOT for having split side walls (was a manufacturing defect), to name a few.
and to top it off, ether a good thing or bad thing, there hasn't even been 1 flake of snow, nothing whatsoever.
when they closed Manchester airport for blizzards and 2 foot snow, it was sunny and barely any clouds.
they had snowman building competitons in bootle which is 15 miles south. we had a spot of drizzle for 5 minutes.
so if you are sick of snow, come to southport. not had any for years.
edit: my tweet now up to 51 favourites. all I said was hodor!
