Turn your screens off an hour before you sleep...

I was aware of the ability of light from screens to keep you awake. Not the rest though.
Thoughts?

No trees were harmed in the creation of this message. However, many electrons were displaced and terribly inconvenienced.
I just plug my phone into charge before I go to bed, leaving it downstairs in the kitchen.
Job done.
Thanks Galant

how do you spend your time online? (Hexus link)
Mandatory 30 second ad? No Thanks. Presumably using phones near bedtime gives you eye cancer and microwaves your brain or some such?
Nor I.
That'll be the NSA then, herulach. They're on to you. Another reason to turn off your screen at night.![]()

Not their assertions, no.
More, it's that photons emitted from screens close to sleep time tend to suppress the brain's secretions of 'sleep hormone', melatonin, meaning that you get to sleep later, and as most of us have fixed waking times, you get less sleep. Say, 5-6 hours not 7-9. Therefore, neurons don't "recharge", and the brain's cleaner cells "glial cells?" cannot properly remove toxins, thus adversely affecting concentration, memory, decision-making ability and even has adverse some physiological impacts.
So, turn off your phone an hour or two before you go to bed.
Presumably, tablet computers too. What about TV's? They emit loadsa photons too, but evening TV nearly always puts me right to sleep.![]()
I remember reading an article about this a while back, very interesting. Could explain why my wife doesnt sleep that well...her phone is glued to her hand!
I do recall it being related to bluish light, there are many apps (phone and tablets) & software for PC's/Laptop that will shift the screen colour toward the red side. Not very helpful if your watching a movie though!
As a test, I stuck my devices onto airplane mode for a few nights and found out that I actually slept a lot better those nights. Of course, not conclusive. But the times when I haven't been sleeping well, the next night I put into airplane mode (so it can still charge and send my alarm) and I have slept better.
As someone who sits on his phone for hours on end in bed, this has worried me just a bit.
Meh, there is a lot more than just this idea, it's not just digital, it's also analogue bulbs too, and I doubt we've had fire long enough for that to not have an effect too.
On this topic, I'd highly recommend https://justgetflux.com/

Being ultra-cautious, I opted for a non-backlit version that doesn't have this impact on my neurons.
Translation = I haven't got around to upgrading my Kindle Touch, since backlit versions came out.
Mind you, I had a play with a friend's new Kindle Voyage a week or so back, and I'm incredibly tempted. I'll be even more tempted if I find a good home for my Touch.
