    Grrrrr SurfControl

    The company i work for have just upgraded the version of SurfControl they use and now its blocking everything! Well, not everything, but everything of interest.

    Not only can i not get into some sites i use for work, but i can no longer get into Hexus! Although i can still get into the forums, go figure

    I've talked to the IT guy and he says he cant do anything about it as its the people at SurfControl who determine which sites to block.
    So basically someone somewhere has decided that Hexus.net is bad. Strang considering i can still get into all other hardware sites, ie Bit-Tech, Anand's etc.

    Anyone know any workarounds?

    SurfControl have a list of proxies too, those will most likely be blocked.

    However, your network admin is a little clueless - you can add exceptions easily to existing rules by establishing which rule Hexus (or other sites of interest) are hitting, then insert a rule just above with "allow" as the action.

    I played with SurfControl a lot in my last job and probably annoyed a lot of people as Internal Audit requires all sports and gambling sites to be blocked

    Do what I did, ssh server and vnc on home pc running on port 443 (https port), set up port forwarding/tunnelling, connect in, sorted

    Or, you could find the admin password for the box surfcontrol is running on and add your ip to the exceptions list

    (")_(")

    Same score at college - SurfControl banned HEXUS. The .co.uk suffix still works for me though.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();
