Really? This is what it's coming to?

DM Article
I'm all for women being treated fairly.
But this is abit too far. Women should be able to walk the streets without being wolf-whistled at. Some women enjoy it, some women hate it so does this mean that men or women should NOT wolf whistle at another women in public?
Builders are notrious for whistling at attractive women, there is nothing malicious about it, so why an issue?

Moved to QT as it is more serious than GD :)
Re: Really? This is what it's coming to?
There's really no discussion to be had here, it's sexual harressment because the victim felt harressed and the builder by his own admission, had a sexual intent.
Simply out, the builder is a mysoganistic prick.

If they see an attractive girl passing, they whistle, they aren't going to track WHO it was. It's not as if they say "Oh we've whistled at her already."
Theres a couple pics of her on the article and those aren't exactly 'appropiate' as I doubt she would be able to get away with that in work.
Whos to say she never deliberately walked past each day for a month, knowing fine well that they'd wolf-whistle, she then records it hands it to the police?
And yes of course the guy is bragging about how he's snogged some girls doing that. It doesn't paint him a good picture but it happens, a mate of mine is a scaffolder and his fiancee? He met on the street during his lunch, apparently whistled at her passing, couple of days later she hands him her number and it progressed from there.
Imo shes just an attention seeker.
Re: Really? This is what it's coming to?
If it was a one-off, I might agree, but they whistled at her every time she went past, and even got up in her face. The whole thing was going on for some time. She had a word with the company owner, who did nowt other than give her platitudes. He should have threatened to sack anyone who did it from that point. She's quite justified, in my book.

Just remember girls/women. Giving a man a blow job without asking is rape :P
Re: Really? This is what it's coming to?
If she feels its harassment, then the police should investigate it, if they find it was and they press charges, job done. If they find it wasn't, then she needs to grow thicker skin and get on with her life. Seems straight forward to me.

First, my comments should be considered with the following health warning - I'm assuming the facts are exactly as portrayed by the DM, which is an assumption I would normally be .... ummm .... reticent about. But for the sake of discussion, I'll take it as the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
If this were an odd random whistle, I'd agree that, unwelcome though it may or may not be, getting police involved would be excessive. Not that I believe police would get involved if that were the case.
But it (note health warning) wasn't.
It was a prolonged series of incidents, and not restricted to whistling. It also included them stopping work to come out to whistle, or otherwise, ogle, as a group, to "getting in her face" and even force her to walk round them.
And if so (note health warning) they are going too far.
Do you know that you don't actually have to touch anyone to commit assault? You just have to be threatening them, in a credible manner causing them to suffer FEAR of imminent violence. By that same yardstick, these idiot builders ought to be aware of the effect a bunch of them could be having on one lone young female. Assuming she did nothing to encourage them, once of twice could be shrugged off, but after that, anyone with an IQ above that of a breezeblock ought to be able to pick up body language that it was not welcome. To carry on, to the point of making her so uncomfortable as to consider changing her route is intimidation.
This girl OUGHT to be able to walk to work without having to run the gauntlet of this bunch of thoughtless louts every day.
Crime of the century, it ain't. Major news story it ain't, either .... though typical Sun or DM fodder.
