    Amazon Increases Free Delivery Spend

Well thats probably knocked Amazon on the head for me for the time being.

I buy a lot of small items generally less than £10 but could always make it to £10 for the free super saver delivery.

Now thats suddenly doubled to £20 :/

About in line with other companies like Ebuyer?

I guess this is another prod to make us sign up for Amazon Prime.

Re: Amazon Increases Free Delivery Spend

Absolutely from the look of it, and maybe like ebuyer but most of what I buy they dont sell at ebuyer etc.

Books are still min spend of £10, everything else is now £20.

Yup, if they do it it's definitely to drive take up of Prime. I'm sure there is a way to make Prime a bargain, wasn't there this thing that you could share a Prime account with friends / family or something? Might be worth taking another look but if I can't get it to below £24 pp py then I probably wouldn't bother.

Re: Amazon Increases Free Delivery Spend

I would be happy to buy prime, at £39 as I never watched a single video when they "upgraded" it to screw more money. The current price means they can go screw.
I wonder if the old pre order trick will work...

Re: Amazon Increases Free Delivery Spend

Way to lose business amazon. Dropped prime last year when the price went up (I don't want a streaming service forced on me - I also detest bundling) and since then my Amazon spending has dipped by ~%50. This will probably dip it another %25. Hopefully flubit/ebay/rakuten will come to the rescue.

Re: Amazon Increases Free Delivery Spend

I won't touch Amazon Prime with a bargepole. Its not that quick, and they also use a multitude of delivery companies who won't always deliver on the same day either. Amazon really needs to get its stone age delivery services sorted out - instead of poxy drones,an option to actually set a day(even a part of that day) would bring them into line with other companies. The lockers are their saving grace IMHO.

Yes I would have prime if it was a lower price as I have no need for all the "extra's"

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think it means you can "activate" Prime on other peoples accounts who's address is the same as yours. I use to flat share with a friend and he had it "gave" it to me. It may work on billing address because I used to get things delivered to my work address. So it's not like you can split it with your mam or a mate you know uses amazon a lot sadly.

Have edited this as I have used it on a different address in the past but just looking at their sharing page seems you now can't? Unclear on that one.

It's already 25Eu (#18.50ish Pounds Sterling) to get something delivered to me in Ireland - I wonder whether the costs to here will increase too?!

Re: Amazon Increases Free Delivery Spend

I think this push towards prime is more of an attempt to increase market share of their video service, rather than an attempt to reduce delivery costs. To be honest this did make me consider ditching Netflix and going over to Amazon, but I use Chromecast and Amazon don't support it (and I'm not forking out for a FireTV to do the same job!). I'm sure this will push a decent number of users towards a prime sub though.

I've used amazon locker a few times and have been happy to pay the £2 for it each time. It has been much more reliable than ordering to home or the office.

Re: Amazon Increases Free Delivery Spend

I use Amazon locker, I have drive a couple of miles, but it's convenient, quick and costs a couple of pounds. Well worth it.

But are these delivery charges high? Not really. A gallon of fuel costs over £6 and gives you a round trip of 2o to 30 miles. So if your seller is more than 30 miles away, it's cheaper to pay shipping than it is to go and get it.

Re: Amazon Increases Free Delivery Spend

Not really a big deal. The prices for delivery arn't that bad. You'll also find that 3rd party sellers will still sell things on there for less with free delivery too.
But it won't change the way i shop with them, they've given me a good service and have dealt with returns quickly without a fuss.

When you say same day, do you mean received on the same day as the order? Because that is something I've never seen offered by e-tailers in the UK. I rarely need something in such a hurry, but I'd welcome such an improvement as it would be nice for the rare emergencies especially for things that can't be obtained locally.

I've always felt that the mail / courier service in the UK have a lot of room to improve.

In Japan, same day delivery -is- offered by Amazon. I have never tested the service but I would be surprised if they fail to delivery. Scheduled delivery is also available for next day delivery, and while you can't choose the time for AM, from noon onwards you have quite a lot of slots to choose from (and courier here are always on time in my experience).
