if you look back in the past ID cards have been, um, on the cards, since back in the 90's...it was just without the issue of terrorists making the 'need' for them backed up they kept falling through. do other countries have ID cards like the ones proposed? it seems like another way to either lock us all up or rape us for all our hard earned money if we don't carry them everywhere we go, including into the shower...
