Re: What would you change in the HEXUS forums?

I think that all the Mods and Admins do a great job here. As the cream always rises to the top, the committed and loyal members become the backbone of the community and help it thrive. We are all under the same rules, only mods and admin keep us all in check. Much like the police, they have to abide by the rules while enforcing them, but can if needed react to every situation by bending the rules slightly ( much like the police can drive over the speedlimit when needed for law enforcement )

I use other forums that are not as polite as here and the is an obvious lack of rules and i find Hexus a much nicer place to be. This is one thing i wouldn't change.

Doubt there can be much value for the H or your partners with these people other than maybe knowing how old they are.
Gotta agree with the man here on this one. Entering competitions on Hexus should sort of be earned I think.

I agree. If there is one thing I would change about the forums it would be to reward the mods for the work they do. The continuously exhibited levels of skill, tolerance, patience and intelligence have led me to believe that moderating must be rewarded and I'm a bit surprised it's not.

I know the job in itself must be rewarding, but everyone, even volunteers, appreciate recognition for their work. And let's be honest, DR is the driver, Hexus is the engine and people like the mods are the oil that keeps things running smoothly.

For what it's worth, I for one appreciate, the way the mods deftly but firmly handle forum traffic; they are an intrinsic part of the Hexus success story.

I am not related to any of the mods nor do I know any of them personally. But I know good work when I see it.

You only have to visit a few other forums to realise how professional the set up is here; and every aspect of that is worth looking after.

Any chance of a Dark theme at all as the white can be a little harsh on the eyes when browsing in the early hours

Re: What would you change in the HEXUS forums?

Both deejayburnout and santa claus have expressed my sentiments more eloquently, but I'd just like to add my appreciation for the mods and admins too.

In addition, I'd like to also show my appreciation for all the members in general for making HEXUS such a welcoming and comfortable place to visit and post on.

    Thank You to you all.

    You counting?

It's got so bad I've taken to kipping on the bog.

Don't tell me .... TMI. Way TMI.

Actually, seriously, on a dark theme, it's cropped up before, and IIRC, the response was something like it causing far too many problems with a heavily customised template scheme, because for such an overall change, the customisation would have to be applied, tested, etc, on each template in each scheme.

I have nothing to do with the design side of HEXUS, or not beyond offering an opinion when asked, but unless something's changed, I think a dark scheme is doubtful. And is it's suggested we change entirely to a dark scheme, that will hit objections too .... with me at the front of the queue.

Re: What would you change in the HEXUS forums?

Some of you mentioned a dark theme. So..

If you use Firefox (possibly Chrome too) you could use Global dark style - changes everything to DARK by stormi. This gives a dark theme to all websites and Firefox itself.

I played around with it a little, as I don't want Firefox itself or the cursor affected. I came up with two versions, one that affects the entire hexus.net domain and the other that affects the forums only. Please note that I have no knowledge of CSS, I just removed sections of stormi's style and set it to work on certain domains.

So for the entire Hexus.net domain there is Hexus.net Dark Style Minimal.

And if you just want to affect the forums only then Hexus Forums Dark Style Minimal may be better.

Again, please note I did not actually create anything. I just played with someone's code.

Forgot to mention that the add on Stylish needs to be installed in your browser if you want to use any of the above.

Re: What would you change in the HEXUS forums?

Whilst I may be largely a lurker these days, as an one of the old school I thought I'd stick in my threepence...

Don't be bullied into changing too much; the Hexus forums are very well moderated, and uphold some of the best conversations on any internet forum I've ever been a part of. Yes, there are minor cosmetic changes that might help such as the additions of themes, but overall there's very little that needs tweaking.

If you're going to do anything, maybe offer free PC upgrades for members that are prepared to do a 'user review' of them - and have been around for a a few years?... No? Oh well it was worth asking. I'll review a ham sandwich if I get it for free.

Re: What would you change in the HEXUS forums?

There's not much I'd want changed about the forums. As others have said, the forums are well run, moderated and probably most important, the forums are friendly and helpful.

If you want to change something then for me, it would be the icon. The forum icon is great, really cool but why not get someone to do it in higher quality. I often use Tapatalk to access the forums but the default icon is a really poor. Any chance of improving it?

Other than that, a pat on the back all round.

Re: What would you change in the HEXUS forums?

I was going to say "bigger inbox", but it looks like it has increased since the last time I used it.
I don't use the inbox much (haven't in over 2 years!), mainly for classified and the very, very, rare communication with members. But when I use it, it is in burst and I find it easy to fill it up. I know I can backup the messages, but I don't want to do it for recent conversations, so I welcome the increase.
