Anyone here cut their own hair?

And by 'cut their own hair', I really mean get a family member/partner to cut their hair for them.

I very much dislike going to the barber's so for the last few years, I've got my dad or my partner to cut my hair for me. I've been using a set of Phillips QC 5070 and the motor is starting to get a bit tired I think. It just doesn't cut as well as it once did.

I was wondering, if anyone had any experience on shavers. Who are the good companies are who are the ones to avoid? I'm pretty sure my Philips cost about £30, does that money buy any semblance of quality nowadays?

Ive used the same unbranded clippers on #1 setting for the last 6 years. Cheap as chips.

I've got some Remington clippers, number 3 does it for me. Only problem I have is getting a straight neckline, when I really am cutting my own hair.

Same as peterb. I did have to buy another set of spacers when I dropped mine a couple of years ago for about £6.

Plus point for home hair cuts is it gives me a chance to strip off in front of the wife without being told off! .

My wife used to cut my hair but ended up going to a Turkish barbers. So much better. Closest a man can get to being pampered.

Forgot to mention:- just a pair of scissors and comb are used..as used for thousands of years

I have 0.5 all over. I got probably one of the cheapest clippers from Argos and as long as they are oiled have worked perfectly well for last couple of years.

I use a set of Wahl clippers which have saved me a fortune in haircuts. Though as I have either a no.1 or no.2 all over depending on time of year seemed a bit wasteful getting someone else to do it. Having tried a few other makes belonging to other people I wouldn't buy anything else. Marginally more expensive but there's a reason why a lot of professional hairdressers use their kit; very reliable and durable. Mine are over 20years old and still work as well as they did when new. Only thing I've had to replace are the blades which is to be expected.

Well I notice that most of these clippers have "self sharpening blades" which is interesting, but I don't really understand how.

I got some Remington ceramic ones from Tesco Direct - cam in at a princely £1 after I'd used up my old Clubcard vouchers. Still going, although a charge only lasts for one cut now. No 4 all over, as the missus doesn't like it too short...

Pretty much the same here, although mine are a mere 15 years old

It took a while to get the technique but I can normally do a complete haircut in one go now, I used to leave the odd bit and have to do a second pass!

The clippers pay for themselves in 2 or 3 uses, and once you add in the time saved going to the barber, waiting around etc, it works out to be incredibly economical. I for one am happy to put up with a slightly lower quality haircut for the hundreds of pounds it has saved me over the last few years!
