Anybody else got that? By the clock, noticed it this morning, apparently just put your email address in to reserve your copy.

No, not yet and I have it set to show all icons.
I am on Win 7 64 Bit
It's shown up on all 3 pc's in our house. I think there was an update a little while ago that was needed.
We have 2 x Win 8.1 and 1 x Win 7 all 64 bit.
Edit : 2000th post, do I get a certificate in the post or something?![]()
Jon
I literally just installed an update and got it.
Signed up for it at the moment but looking out for an answer to a burning few questions I have had since free was mentioned.
Can I uninstall it and then go back to 7 or will it completely disable the use of my 7 key for the future.
What if you say have a hard drive failure and need to do a clean install after the first 12 months is up, will it still be available to you or will you have to purchase it. Tie this in with the prior question and it is a little worrying that these scenarios haven't been answered as of yet.
2000 posts, nice going
Have a certificate on mein a post!!
I think upgrades consume your previous license
Lol thanks Ferral![]()
Yes there are still many unanswered questions and unless its now updated the FAQ page 404'ed :/
Jon
I remember there was an upgrade previously that killed your prior license so you couldn't go back if you wanted to.
This is the biggest worry for me presently as I have the retail boxed version of 7 here and will be really annoyed if I cannot go install it on another machine.
The FAQ is working now but still a bit vague.
The Microsoft employee who just answered a similar question regarding previous keys gave a very round the houses answer and still never answered it.
Jon
I have messaged Microsoft Helps on Twitter to see if they come back with something.
I can see me just buying the upgrade version that has its own key just for peace of mind.
At least it says you can cancel your order if you change your mind

Stuff that's not immediately clear from the updater:
If you have Professional, Ultimate, Pro or Pro for Students edition of Win7/8 you will get Win10 Pro. Otherwise you get the Home edition. Doesn't work for enterprise.
Doing the upgrade permanently invalidates your Win7/Win8 key. Though if history is any indication, if you want to downgrade again a phone-call to the activation line would be worth a try.
I do want to know how the Windows 10 licensing works though. Does the updater bake the license into your UEFI? Or can you extract a product key in case you need to do a manual install for custom partitioning / storage config?
What if my gran tries to upgrade her end-of-life Win7 laptop that has no Win10 drivers?
"When you upgrade, you’ll stay on like-to-like editions of Windows. For example, Windows 7 Home Premium will upgrade to Windows 10 Home."
Windows 10 FAQ
Also the current thinking on the grapevine seems to be the upgrade app stores the license in UEFI like an OEM install via WinPE.
