    Ipod/mp3 player through a car

Anyone know any sensible way of playing music through you ipod/other mp3 player through your cars speakers?

I have seen fm transmitters but do they work well? surely the qualitys not up to much?

FM trasnmitters are also illegal in this country... The quality is ok if thre is no interference, but that is v. rare. Easy way is using either a head unit with an aux input or using a tape-minijack thingmy.

My brother just got a second hand corsa, 1.2l design I think, with a 54 plate, anyway hes wondering if it will have an aux input, I assumed it would be at the back, but having never fiddled with car audio...
He doesnt want to take the unit out unless he knows its going to be there (although im sure its easy).

FM transmitters are not a great idea. The anonoy a great amount of people. The range on them is typically alot more than your car, so everyone you drive past, going to hear your music...

If you do use one,l tune it to a spare station, or one of the crap ones that noone listens too... Also note that the higher Mhz, the better the quality, although probably not noticable.

If you don't have an aux input, then you can get a wired FM modulator which sits between the aerial and the head unit. Gives almost the quality of an aux input, without the side effects of actually having an FM transmitter.

Much as I dislike the idea, I've always found the sony tape adaptors to be better quality than any FM transmitter I've tried - and they can be picked up very cheaply.

However, I've also found that portable mp3 players are really arkward to use when driving (basically, you can't do anything but just skip track) and much prefer having a CD/MP3 head unit instead
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

mp3 headunit- probably the best option all round

I was asking for a mate who wants to listen to his ipod/sony network walkman in the car. You couldnt use it while driving anywhere near as easily as a cd headunit so you would just end up with a huge playlist and if your going to do that then why not dump loads of mp3's onto a cd and just listen to that.

getting a CD/tape head unit with line in would surely be the simplest way. Tape converters aren't bad either.
