Well, I did a sandwich course so after a year in the Real World, I really appreciated my final year.
I also found that the modules in the final year got really interesting (I did a degree in phyiscs) and I got to cherry-pick exactly which ones I wanted to do. Yeah, there was a lot of work to do but compared to having a job, I still had a lot of free time.
What aspects aren't you enjoying at the moment?
i found that I probably could have not done the first year at uni, the second year was a bit more interesting and the third year was only good for three modules I did, the other two I had to do were a complete waste of time to be honest...
so real world is what you make it, so its miles better. just jump through all the hoops you need to and then gear up for the real stuff...oh and start looking for a job now

yeah final year was rather bad, i got rather ill towards christmas and missed about 10 days which was absolutely fundamental. Still its part and parcel of what its about. Uni especially non art courses are damn hard work.
Don't worry about it though, when you've passed and you are going up to recieve your degree it will be completely forgotten

Bloody hell, you can study anything these days. I mean, going to uni to study the humble sandwich. Was it preperation of or a general history?Originally Posted by Aaron
Still I suppose some of the modules would still be tough - the dreaded 'getting the lid of a jar of pickeld onions with wet hands' exam springs to mind.
Yes Rai final years do indeed suck. I had an exam yesterday (computer graphics) and although I had done a lot of revision it still went crap. I have another one tomorrow that I'm definately not going to enjoy.
If I was a celebrity would you get me out of here?
Uh huh, final years suck the big one. I became a total hermit, barely went out (couldn't afford to waste precious time or money), and surrounded myself with books, papers and cups of tea.
It didnt help that they changed how the module system worked for my final year, meaning i had no choice what i could do, and therefore ended up studying Sartre *shudders* whilst spending 4 months on my dissertation. Still, the end came very quickly, and then i could look back on all the fun i had at uni while clutching my nice degree and looking like a fool in my cap and gown (fitting the cap over blue dreadlocks was a mission that involved a dozen hair clips ).
On your 'to do' list
Well i have no issues with the modules, i finally get to do the nitty gritty Internet stuff (networking and the likes) from that respect it's really good and i'm enjoying my modules. (instead of the crappy Software modules that i hate with a passion)
I'm just having issues with the "no time" problem. No time to enjoy myself, because if i do i feel guilty coz i should be doing some work. I haven't seen my boyfriend for more than half an hour in the last 6 weeks, he lives over the road. However much work i do there is always some more to be done.
Leon, thanks for the support, i know exactly the boat you're in! ( and good luck for small real time systems...)
I'd get you out of there only if you take me with you!
I did a compulsory sandwich year too, and was looking forward to coming back to uni.... but now i sure as hell enjoy the real life. (Student accomodation sucks for one thing, and the money problem is v.annoying)
TBH i can't wait to graduate... i know for a fact that after the last exam next semester there will be a lot of BEng Students wandering around very very drunk that night.

I have to disagree my final year was a good laugh, although sad.
I enjoyed doing an in depth project for a year.... Of course enjoying the
actual uni work depends on if you are any good at it normally.
This is regarding course work exams are different.
You should set yourself half a day each week to just spend time with your boyfriend. Forget about the work for a while, don't feel guilty about not doing it. With the amount of time your putting in atm I reckon you you will go insane and that won't help with the quality of your work.
It's just as important to have a break than it is to do the work to keep yourself happy.

wooo. Last year at uni sucked the same as the rest (the social life was good though)..
i went back for more punishment. I just had the strangest exam in my life. It was open book. Now.. after a 4 year undergrad without books in an exam It was a liberating thought that I just had to learn most things vaguely and I would be able to look them up. It was also open internet ! we had laptops there because we were comparing two websites indepth... and generating code so needed online validators.
The course was very mixed, it being an msc, and he wanted us to write an essay in xhtml - 5 marks for the code, 20 for the content. Write an xsd and xml file for a specified problem.. AND to write an rdfs/rdf instance on some stuff. Suffice to say in an hour thats a hell of a lot, and for the first time in my life i left an entire question blank ! Stressed about that.. Guess thats what the incourse assessments were for. To make up for the guy asking for too much in the time.
I'm in my 2nd year of 4, so I guess I should start trying to enjoy myself more.
As Rai knows we both have an exam in Formal Methods on Monday. This indeed sucks big time. Oh well nothing we can do but try and understand some of it
