Question Xmas Sale Shenanigans! (Caution Large Images 56k!!)

I hope everyone here on hexus has had a good christmas and, sorry for those who may have had not such a good one, hopefully next year will be slightly better for you!

Anywhoo the time as come for the after xmas sales, and, they usually tend to be pretty good. So Picture this scenario, around £200 in your pocket, and you have a whole day to explore town and buy something really useful. The following decent things have come into my mind to spend the dough on:
    >A New pc Monitor perhaps?
    >A Top end graphics card (X800XT from local comp store is £239)
    >A Sanyo 28" Conventional or 28" Wide with Bass and VIrtual Dolby (£199 from ASDA) - seems a decent deal, would do if only i hadn't just bought a new tv! But still a moderately open option...
    >A New Home Cinema Setup (Have a 100W system atm, but is more power really necessary?!)
    >A DVD Recorder (Already have a DVD/VCR Combo unit, could always return it and then add dough to get a DVD-R/Video combo unit.
    >A Freeview Hard Disk Recorder (already got freeview, but its sure easier than getting video cassettes!)
    >TopUPTV (kinda skeptical about a new box for only 10 channels... are some goodens in there tho and £8 a month isnt anything to sniff at...)

Bear in mind i am fully open to any other ideas but bear in mind I only have the following resources at my nearby disposal
    >Hemel Hempstead Town Centre (which consists of 2 local computer upgrade stores, dixons, woolworths, gamestation etc)
    >Watford Town Center (which consists of a larger gamestation, john lewis, dixons, computer exchange etc)
    >Apsley Retail Park (which consists of Comet, Currys & Powerhouse)

So guys, what would you do?!
I hate having so much money, can never decide what to spend it on!
And i am NOT a saving person lol I couldn't save to save my life!

Depends on your current monitor. If it is an el cheapo monitor, then a new one would be a good investment - it is what you spend all the time on the computer looking at, after all!

Wouldn't go for an X800 or 6800 - the CPU would be a bottleneck.

What's wrong with VCRs? Can't really see the benefit of using DVDs just to tape a program rather than the good ol' fashioned way.

It's quite simple, you just put the money in the bank account

I would go for a new monitor, or a new CPU and motherboard - that is the weakest point of your PC, rather than the graphics card. A 6800 or X800 would be seriously bottlenecked by the CPU.

Well, if you want a TV (which is in your list) and a DVD recorder (also in your list), have a look at this - it's a lot cheaper than buying both items separatly:

    http://www.internettvsdirect.co.uk/p...hebs-deals.htm

I know it's way over that £200 you have, but if you do what mike_w says and save if for a while, you could afford it.

Please take a look at the thread I made in the audio/visual bit - I'd like some thoughts on the above product as I'm thinking of buying it, but know next to nothing about TV's.</thread_plug>

Jesus that tv is very expensive... I've pretty much made up my mind to go for a new graphics card, but I have no idea if any shops are open today because of xmas day falling on Saturday lol
Then again, this monitor has caught my eye... and is just in my price range..

    I live in Hemel.
My advice would be: Get out. Now. Why you still can. Get as far away as possible and stay away. Or at least don't buy stuff from there, the two PC shops are really atrocious. One of them doesn't accept debit cards, and then charges a fortune to use their instore cash machine. Stay Away

How about a Sky+ installation... mate of mine has it and is soooo chuffed with it he's starting to get boring banging on and on about it...

Apparently it does everything you expect it to, such as being able to record off of two different channels and watch a third at the same time while still being able to 'live' rewind up to 60 mins of what you're watching etc etc... auto recording of series,,, all that stuff AND you get to keep your old Sky box for use elsewhere in the house.

Haven't got sky so no way and now i have returned from town i have decide on a new monitor.
I have ended up with a 17" Digimate TFT with a 12-16ms response time )unsure exactly) and a 100m PCI WIFI card for use with my ppc
Am well chuffed with the monitor, just trying to get it to stand correctly on the stand is murder
