Disasters Emergency Committee is a kind of blanket that covers many of the other charities mentioned above (i.e. British Red Cross, Oxfam etc.).
If you donate online, and are a taxpayer, don't forget to tick the "Gift Giving" box, as that means they can claim back the tax already paid - equivalent to an extra 28% at no cost to yourself.

Well I did my bit today, mum rang to say that anything she donated would be doubled by her branch of the company, then doubled again by head office. So i donated a £10 to add to hers. so that was £120 today. I hope that other companies are being as generous!

Now that it has been a while scince the dissaster (and the charitys asked for no more moeny, we could change this into a charity sticky, with links for donations and information, and emergencys, like the tunsunami.
