How can i change an avatar?

500 is right I believe, but it is not instataneous, the forum software has to update itself to the fact that you can change.

Tom- give it a while, I'm not sure how often it checks for the 500 posts.

Sometimes it takes a little while for things to update you should be able to do it soon, try logging in and out.
