Thats terrible! Probably a bad angle for the ref and linesmen though. The sooner there is a tv ref the better!
Not around too often!
Agreed. both the ref and the linesman would have been around the halfway line were the action was i'd assume, so wouldn't of had any idea as to if it was a goal or not and lets face its, if you're a ref nowadays it's better to disallow a goal that happened (like much of sol campbell's international goals ) then it is to allow a goal that didn't.Originally Posted by menthel

I know the reason for the goal being disallowed now too.
It seems that manure are trialling a new fifa goal line....
I think the ref should have asked the keeper if he had a clear view and thought it had gone over the line and stressed that there would be quite clear video evidence after the game so the keeper better be honest or face a hoooge fine/bannage.
to which he could reply "I couldnt tell it happened too quickly."Originally Posted by Zathras

Whatever, it's quite clear from the photo and the video that Carrol could see it's miles over the line.
both very good points, still wouldn't have hurt for the ref to have asked, if the guy said no then the ref doesn't have to take his word for it anyway, but if he admitted it was a goal then why would he lie, the ref would've been able to award it. but then how can the ref really stop play to ask before resuming play, as if it wasn't a goal the ball would still be in play. haha
Yeah well, everyone knows that Man U always take the field at home with a 14 man team. One with a whistle and 2 with flags.
"You want loyalty? ......get a dog!"
Only at Old Trafford could this happen. We was robbed.
LOL @ this thread.
ok, the ref was 40 yards+ away so was the linesman. if he wasnt sure whether it went in, then he cant give the goal.
and as for asking Roy Carroll if the ball crossed the line.... thats just silly, go back to your egg chasing. I hat eMan Utd, but there loyal, and they'd accept the fine if it ment not loosing.
i don't get it tho - why WOULDN'T it be a goal?
he put his hands to it - didn't hold it - and it went over the line. that's a goal in my book (even though I just don't get footie) - how could the ref say it's not a goal (given that it ended up in the back of the net)
thats absolute genius - i can't think of much that would annoy me more than that...
