    DATA Destruction: Chomping Hard Drives

Has anyone got any recommendations for companies which Mangle your HDD's for not a stupid amount of money?

We have over 300 HDDs and loads of old tapes that need to be chomped and the best quote we have had is 1500+VAT for the day, another wanted over £5 a drive....

They would likely need to be ISO certified probably to ISO 27001 or something like that. Locality wise it is East Anglia.

    Cheers

Do you need some official paperwork to say that have been destroyed?

If not then a large hammer should do the trick, or wood chipper?

If grabbing a nail gun, axe and a few beers isn't an option (sad face goes here) then you could probably buy the machine and resell afterwards for a cost efficient option depending on what sort of freedom you have to recommend that.

No mention of cost, but worth getting a quote.

for ISO audit proposes they need to be recorded.

Personally I would have been happy to smash them up.

Buying then selling on might be possible I guess.

I have used these guys at work a few times:

    http://diskshred.eu/

Very realiable, friendly and polite. Not sure if they are any cheaper than your quote but to be honest, if you need\want the paper trial for auditing etc then it isn't going to be the cheapest going.

These guys can also do a CCTV recording to show the destruction of each disk, if that is something you need.

Oh yeah and the lorries with hug disk mulchers are quite cool to watch, very satisfying!

We have used this company a few times - https://www.sitd.co.uk/ - these will shred your disks and will be able to provide secure couriers from your location.

The ISO bit is the issue more so if you are involved in government work. The quote you have is pretty good. We pay far more than that unfortunately.

    The requirement is on-site unfortunately.

There are machines you can rent which scan and mangle but we were told the rental period is the months...

Data raze I think the machine is called ou

Re: DATA Destruction: Chomping Hard Drives

I guess you have a " chain of custody" issue, linked with your ISO accreditation.

Can you do a witnessed destruction on site, using your own staff/machines?

(Might need re-writing your data sestruction policy - but opens up the possibility for providing a service for other organisations.)
