    Broadband DSL gets even faster

Rapid improvements in digital subscriber line (DSL) technology are allowing broadband operators to offer access speeds up to and over 2Mbps and reach new areas.
Analysys Research said the expansion of coverage and services will "significantly boost" operators' broadband revenues.

The impact of DSL technologies is likely to continue beyond 2008 and could be a more durable technology than originally thought, rather than a short-lived solution to be replaced by fibre, according to the organisation's report.

Analysys predicts that broadband revenues will grow from €12.5bn (£8.8bn) in 2003 to €24.7bn in 2008. By 2008 around 15 per cent - €3.74bn - of broadband revenue in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden will come from DSL services offering more than 2Mbps downstream.

Claim it would Help for college or something. And you need it. Actually, work for bandwidth thats what I had to do when my house first got broadband.

1Mb on DSL is still gonna be restricted to peeps less than 3.5km from their nearest exchange, well at least for the 1st phase of this anyhow.

    Grrrrrr

our exchange just got upgraded to ADSL. so i check on the BT site and it said something like 'the length of the line could be a problem, but you should be able to recive services up to 2Mbits' - beacuse i live pretty far from the excange - not sure exactly how far.
then i went to update my lovely Anytime dial up to 512/256 ADSL on my ISPs site. but it got to 'stage 2' of the test and failed supposidly because i'm too far from the exachange

anyone got any info on when the range for adsl will be greater so i can get a decent connection here?
56K is realy getting to me now that i know there is ADSL available, lol

ADSL in this country could operate at 8mbits just now if anyone wanted to support it..... (well BT really)

Pity no-one does as there is more money to be made by maxing people @ 2mbit for now

(No that wasn't on an internal briefing @ work months ago, honest guv')

I've been hooked ever since I was accepted for the trial for ADSL when it was first announced and I've never looked back

I did annoy my girlfriend at the time a bit though cause I didn't come off the computer for at least 24 hours after that and I took a day off work just to keep playing with the service
Signature in development ... please be patient

2mbit isn't worth it IMO ... I am happy with 1mibt. But I would like to see a better upstream, to at least 512KB. (Telewest)

Faster upstream would be lovely indeed, but the 256KB limit on it is most likely to stop home users from using their DSL for webservers/ftp servers.

I'm sure people do that already, I've put an ftp server box on my line - but there is more chance that people will do it, if a faster connection became available (imo).

Now if NTL could create 2mb for not much more and have no cap on it and maybe a 512 upstream. I wouldn't say no...
