Buying a cpu and Monitor in America

I'm going to the States in April and may take advantage of the exchange rate to buy a nice 20" ish TFT and two AMD FX-55 CPU's (one to use, the othe to sell to help pay for the other)

When i bring them back into the country will i need to pay any import duty ?

Has anyone done this before ?

the monitor will be very hard to bring back...

... also comes down to how much you delcare too (and if indeed you do) but the penalties are not small if you don't declare and get caught

Hmmm i'm leaning towards just putting the CPU's in a suitcase and winging it. I may have to forget about the monitor.

If i have to pay an extra 25% or so its not really worth it,

The other thing you got to watch is the voltage...

If the monitor runs on US 110V, it'll give a nice fireworks display in the UK

Dont bother with the monitor, it'll probably get destroyed on the journey home anyway.

Hmm that would be entertaining, but somewhat impractical. I'm just going to hide the CPU's inside my boxers

The monitor would actually be fine if you can be bother to haul it over, most monitors these days ship with a multivoltage transformer, so you'd only need a UK kettle cable and no fireworks should ensue

Hmm, wondering about the implications of wrapping electrical components around one's torso, then strolling through airport security xray....

    I'd give ya 5 seconds

I doubt the monitor will survive the journey home anyway.

i doubt it, the CPUs are worth while tho, i mean there small and nobody will notice them, so if i hide them well you might get away with it

i not condoning it tho, i mean they could charge u a lot of cash if u get caught, and its illegal? im not too sure

Hiding them could make it more obvious you are doing something wrong.
if they find chips strapped to your body they will think what they hell...
    something dodgy is going on.
You are better off just sticking them in your hand luggage. I brought though
my HDD in my bag which got searched they didnt say a thing.
