What has YouTube saved you money and time on?

I've found SO MANY helpful things on You tube recently

I had an issue with a chain brake on my chainsaw.. couldn't work out how to get part of it out... Youtube
Wanted to make some "snap caps" for my shotgun as I wont pay £10 for them only to get rubbish ones... Youtube confirmed my own idea and I made them

    The list is endless.

Laptop needed a keyboard removing and cleaning.. Youtube.

    What about you?

Re: What has YouTube saved you money and time on?

I've used youtube to fix a few watches, to fix a printer and a good few computer issues aswell.
There must be more than that too, but that's all i can think of at the mo.

    Really is a great tool.

Fixed a few phones and a laptop that I didn't have the manual for and couldn't find one damn screw holding everything still in place.

Re: What has YouTube saved you money and time on?

I mostly use it for car stuff, generally how to remove/replace bits or diagnose faults.

It also saves me trips to hospital when I'm curious about things.. what happens when you microwave a grenade? What does a bowling ball do in a hydraulic press?

    YouTube!

Re: What has YouTube saved you money and time on?

How do sing notes an octave lower than my usual lowest range. Various Russian composers (Rachmaninov etc.) have what look like ridiculous bass parts (search for Russian Octavist for examples of the style). Turns out there's a trick called sub-harmonic singing to produce these notes - most people would pay a hundred quid or so for a bunch of lessons on how to do it and this trick would be kept relatively unknown. One you tube explanation later and I'm sounding like a Russian bass

    What he said ^.

When I was 17, I started to use it to find out how to wire up my neons as the instructions were in Chinese only

Then I needed it on how to take apart my dials as I had a Vxl VXR Speedo cover to replace then change the colour of the LEDs.

Then how to fit my sound system, from subwoofer to new CD/MP3 Player.. youtube really helped me. Had it not been for youtube, I think my car would've ended up in bits as I already suffered the sliced fingers lol. A hammer was never far.

Lol, that kind of reminds of that video of that kid who microwaved a glow stick and it exploded over him.

Re: What has YouTube saved you money and time on?

Very little actually. My interests and those of youtube uploaders never seem to coincide.

For example I'm considering buying the Wahl Lithium Ion Vario hair trimmer but I had some concerns about it clogging up after comments made about another brand using a similar variable height design. So I thought I'd see if there were any videos of it in action or showing the design up close.

Youtube produces exactly one result for it, and that just a bit of clickbait.

The quality of a the advice on YouTube, like any other source, is only as good as the person giving it.

From that point of view, they can be good guidance, but you generally need sufficient general knowledge about the subject to be able to make an informed opinion about the quality of the advice given.

Re: What has YouTube saved you money and time on?

Lots of manufacturers put their own tutorials on Youtube now too.

    Husqvarna are great films.

From chainsaw techniques.. to sharpening the chain with their (awesome) sharpening tool

I have improved no end in my chain sharpening skills and it's saved me loads of time and I've got good life from the chain.
