What on earth is going on!
To expand on my original comment, Prince was a true legend, I grew up with his music and feel in complete shock.
What a shame, gone far too soon.

Jon
That came out of the blue!
I'm shocked. A truly talented musician and performer. Each album different to the last. His music had life compared to the sterile music of today.
Well that's a blow. Spare ribs anyone?
this was very unexpected. i'm literally one of his biggest fans, met him a few times, been to his studio a few times, been onstage a few times, have all sorts of insider contacts and never saw this coming. i was at his last uk show which wasn't open to the public, there were cancelled plans for another on 18th april. his last shows were cancelled due to the paris attacks, which made he really hate those involved, and they have now resulted in me missing his last tour, which was him solo on piano. when i heard rumours of tours i worried about getting tickets, when i had tickets i worried about being front row, and i also worried about my bank account and getting time off work. now no more, it's a big change. it may sound crazy but i followed him since a schoolkid, over 30 years, saw him live over 100 times, have an amount of music few would believe, as he's one of, if not the most bootlegged artist of all time. there's loads of great stuff in the vaults, but the idea of not seeing him live again and seeing all the fans again hasn't sunk in properly
I wasn't aware he had written Nothing Compares to you and Manic Monday... RIP
I knew about Nothing Compares 2 U (and I Feel for You - Chaka Khan) but not Manic Monday...
So sad don't understand why so many of them are dropping right now.
R.I.P. to a true legend
I saw an article about this a few days ago, it's because all of the baby boomers are coming to the sort of age where they are susceptible to 'old age' diseases (not that it appears Prince's death was anything to do with old age). And because there were suddenly a lot of them, more of them are dropping.
Here it is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36108133
I have the original version of Nothing Compares 2 u from a great musical album from an outfit called The Family in 1985 with an article from Blues & Soul magazine giving some background to the song. Loved the original but not the Sinead's version. I suspect lots of people will love Sinead's version because they assume it was the original version.
With regards to Manic Monday, it was stated at the time of the hit that this song was written by Prince.
My record collection is mainly made up of soul, jazz and funk artists and many of them seemed to have expired over the last ten years. I have very little mainstream music in my collection so any quality artists such as Randy Brown, Jon Lucien, George Duke, Phyllis Hyman would mean very little to a lot of people. I really don't do commercial music. Quality music is timeless and commercial music is merely fashion.
