    Running and stamina

    'ello all.

    I need to up my stamina in running as i'm training to do a half marathon (it is 13 miles right?). I did 9 miles the other day which wasn't that hard really so i reckon i could do 13 miles.

    The question is, does anyone know any methods to improve my stamina? Yes, i know running is one option but are there any other ways such as eating certain foods and so on?

    Also, does anyone know where to find out where half marathons are held? I'm in portsmouth at the mo'.

    just run every night, but eat no food before you go, when i run on no energy it seems to improve my fitness in droads.

    Yeh i took the creatine route yonks ago You have to be quite specific in the amount you take though

    I can only eat on an empty stomach, i always do. Otherwise i get really bad stitches.

    I also eat on an empty stomach, otherwise I suffer from bursting.

    I'm just the opposite. I tried drinking a lucosade (SP?) about a week ago just before I cycled back home from the train station as I usually do (about 5-6 miles). After drinking that, I'm sure I was able to go A LOT faster than usual. Try that - it might work for you, it might not .

    Well i'm trying to increase stamina without anything like that. I mean, fitness wise increase stamina so i can naturally run for longer

    Maybe eat loads of pasta - I think that gives you energy.

    long distance running at resaonably high intensity (say 1hour/ 1 and 1/2 hours every other day will be sure to set you straight. the days in between; a light exercise for the same time frame would be ideal.

    I was watching something on TV about rowing (oxford/cambridge), and that followed a day in the life of a rower. Basically, it said they ate whenever they could, and they ate a lot of pasta because it gave them evergy.

    Maybe they row so much that it doesn't make them fat?

    I eat absolutely loads of pasta, never made me fat.

    You've got to balance your carb intake with the amount of exercise you're doing. It's fine for the blues rowers (esp the fatweights), as they burn lord-knows how many calories each day in training. The pasta is the fuel for this exercise. If you don't exercise and use up the energy, it'll turn to fat. If you want to eat healthily while not kill yourself with 4+ hours of exercise a day try to get lots of protein into you and minimise excess carb. Simply eating pasta because you think it's healthy will have an adverse affect on you.
