    Cillit Bang

Right, I've finally had enough of them ad spamming the breaks on ITV3 when I'm trying to watch Frost or some other high quality repeat. Here's the text of the complaint I submited to the ASA about 15 minutes ago:

    Quote Originally Posted by Rave
The cliam that 'limescale is just calcium that sticks' is basically a lie. Limescale is in fact mostly calcium carbonate, a completely different substance to pure calcium. The advert then goes on to show a lump of solid calcium effervescing in a pink solution, and continues 'and if solid calcium dissolves this fast, imagine how Cillit Bang works on taps and sinks'. This is a nonsensical comparison, as substances that react with pure calcium (among them plain water) will react quite differently with calcium carbonate. In short, this advert uses blatantly incorrect scientific claims to sell its product, and as such should be censured as soon as possible. It's not as if the claims are doubtful, they are simply wrong as anyone with a Chemistry A-Level (or even GCSE) will tell you.
Sadly yes I did misspell 'claim' which is the second word. Nontheless I'll be immensely annoyed if they reject my complaint because the advert clearly is utter junk science.

In the meantime, please don't buy it, on principle.

What I want to know is who the hell is "Barry Scott" (aside from a pillock of the first water) and why should we care? Seriously, it's one of the most annoying starts to an advert I've ever seen, worse than that bloody woman from the old Shake'n'Vac ads. "Hi! Barry Scott here..."...FFS, just shut up and crawl back under your (calcium-based) rock!

edit: Great minds think alike, obviously...

In fairness, I find the ad (and the name) quite amusing. It's the false scientific claims which cheese me off.

Yeah, similar to the overpriced yoghurt ads harping on about 'freindly bacteria' and lots of energised women running about on speed
