    Cheap Holiday Suggestions?

I'm 22, and last November-ish I had a two day excursion to France which was my first trip abroad. It was ok, but I was ill throughout, however I'm totally bitten by the travel bug!

Can anyone suggest decent cheap holidays that could be possible or people have already tried with a little bit of cultural insight?

Obviously if you can put a bit of info down about potential costs, that'd be cool.

www.igluski.com is very good for last minute skiing holidays. How does £129 for a week including flights and accomodation sound?

    Wow, thats cheap, TeePee!

My girlfriend and I went to Prague last Summer. Was a last minute decision thing. We had a great time there! The hotel (Very nice hotel!!) was about £200 for 3 nights for the both of us, and the plane tickets were about £70 each! I would recommend booking earlier though, as you should get it alot cheaper!

Things there are very cheap! We took around £100 each to spend and it lasted with some change! That included fancy lunches and dinners everyday, tram fares, taxi fares, and a few pressies for people!

The actual place is lovely! It looked very busy with all the tourists about, but it really didn't feel busy or rushed! Was quite relaxing actually. And if you're into history, there's plenty of that there too!

PS Beer's cheaper than most drinks too!!

yeah, I spent about £120 on flights very last minute, took £180 for the whole week and didnt hold back on spending . . . came back, went to the bureau de change and asked for my pounds back - I got £40 back!

Definately one of my favourite places on the continent for many reasons other than cheapness (thats just a bonus), like you said it's very beautiful and full of history.

And yeah, beer is as cheap as 20p per pint (tho about 30% of it is head) . . . in a lot of places, it's more expensive to buy "dobra voda" (water) than it is to have a pint.

Take no notice. Far worse places out there. But i would suggest the more 'new travaler' friendly places like spain first - just avoid the coast and august. The Prague is cool too. Then start saving up to get a round the world ticket

Er... Amsterdam isn't the capital of anywhere. The Hague is the Capital of Holland.

Amsterdam is a supurb city. The Rijksmuseum is one of the best art galleries in the world, after the Louvre and the Uffizi. The maritime museum is also excellent, but Amsterdam is a unique city to simply walk around the streets and canal system. Add to that the friendly people and the fact that most speak english and it's a great place to visit. Even if it is tarnished by the drugs and prostitutes (which are largely confined to one small easily avoided area).

If you want to be hastled by junkies as soon as you get off the train then
amsterdam is the place to go. I guess thats a part of being friendly.
Compared to other major cities in euroland it should be way down on the list
    of places to see first.

There are far nicer places in europe to see barcelona, berlin (the sansoucci palace in
    potsdam is impressive.)

Bulgaria, lovely place & due to the strong pound dirt cheap. Spent a short time there this year on business & was totally impressed. Very quaint.
The Black sea coast looks well nice. Why not give it a looky.

Was contemplating buying a farmhouse there as it only worked out to be 12G, but I cant be bothered witht the red tape malarky.

Anyone care to elaborate more on pricing? Thanks for the replies so far!

Antsss / Acid303 : Who did you use to get there?
Oid: Who did you use to get to Bulgaria, and how much was it?

Prague, Bulgaria and Amsterdam all sound very exciting indeed!

Yeah, what is the deal with the skagheads who territorise central station? I swear the same ones keeps coming up to me. And any spare change u give them they end up throwing back at you coz you didnt give them anymore. How grateful. How friendly. Im actually not sure which is worse - Amsterdam, or Brussels tbh. They're both seedy in their own ways.

rc55, I used Go (which is now Easyjet) to get there - I dont live in England so I needed connecting flights. But any of the low cost budget lines will take you there for a good price. Fly Tues-Weds, they're usually cheaper for those airlines . . . if you need to connect flights and if you can bear it, spend the night in an airport (so you take the last flight available for the day to the first airport, then the first available flight out the following morning to your destination).

edit: the more eastern side of the continent is rather nice and charming - you're really probably as well taking a train from prague to say Budapest (prob cheaper in Budapest slightly than Prague) or something. Or even Croatia which is absolutely stunnnig, and not that much more expensive than Czech Republic. Actually, Im only saying this because the women on that side of the world are just so much more inticing

(no but seriously, beautiful cities, and beautiful people. I mean, girls )

We used BMI Baby from Gatwick... It was either them or Easyjet. When we went , Easyjet's and BMI's prices were very close, but at the time of day we wanted to go, BMI Baby was a bit cheaper... (It was a direct flight too, and didn't take very long to get there.)
