    Just got made redundant

    Hi all

Bit of a sad time for me. Been working here for five and a half years now as a web site/ internal systems developer, but they've decided to relocate my job to singapore (together with my boss and another developer). Got 6 months to do the handover (though I don't know who too - not only have they not employeed anyone else, but quite frankly - no one they've got over there could do it... not trying to be big headed, it's just the way it is).

Oh well - in July I don't have to hide who I work for anymore and avoid making posts on certain things (I suppose you could have worked it out by now if you look at my posts)

Plus I probably needed a kick up the arse to get myself moving. Gonna miss the people though - they're a nice bunch.
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

    Rythmic,

speaking from experience here, i had no notice when i got made redundant recently, but have been very lucky getting into a new job straight away. Just think yourself lucky that you've got 6 months warning, not many people get that sort of notice.

One thing I would have to say, don't feel sorry for yourself, just get yourself out there on the job sites, get CV's out there and start banging on peoples door. If you get yourself a job before July ask for volentary redundacy to make sure you don't miss out on some extra money, but if you can't get that a job is better than a few quick bucks.

    Good luck

not a good thing rhythmic but as they say as 1 door closes another opens then before you know it it could be double the pay half the work and all the benefits. Shazam 1 bag of purple fairy dust. hopefully your redundancy pay will reflect the years of hard work and lower the strain of finding another job.

Thanks guys - I'm hoping it'll be a positive step - ironically I went to my boss with 15 job descriptions off the net last week, all paying 1/3 more than my current wage - for him to review my salary (he didn't know he was being laid off either).

Moby - I do VB.NET, ASP, SQL 2K, that kind of thing Very much a MS house here. My last two projects were a targetted bulk mailer (believe me I'm embaressed already - but it's all sign in only - no unsolicited (despite some requests...)) and the companies content management system (all bespoke - minimum commercial package to do the same job was over 2mill plus annual fees). Oddly enough, it seems that the last one contributed to me losing my job - it's too damn good.

Cause I work on systems, not the products, theres very little I know that hasn't been already leaked somewhere (first I found out about a couple of them, was when they appeared at CES) - and theres no specific NDA. I'll just be very happy not too hide who they are (believe me - I learnt at i15 not too disclose it - I don't develop the products, I don't know why they sometimes have problems!)

Redundancy package wasn't as much as I was hoping for - but OK. Enough to clear some bills, but not enough to let me travel round the world or anything.

I have been looking for a "my job went to singapore" t-shirt, but can't find one
