    Taking pleasure from simple things.....

Simplicity, in 2016, is quite hard to find

everything is so complex.. and so many things overlay onto other things.

Taking pleasure from simple things is an art some days...it takes effort to go simple which utterly kills the point. Even going for a walk somewhere wild and untouched, can involve so much prep, driving, coats and boots etc

Playing tetris is easier than going for a walk some days..and that's not a simple thing.

Yesterday, late at night, I sat down on the kitchen floor and polished black leather shoes.

it was a really very very relaxing time. I WAS only going to polish my sons school shoes but I enjoyed it so much I did all my work shoes and a pair of outdoor safety boots I wear regularly when I'm working outdoors.

I had a new tin of black shoe polish. The smell of it.. the click of the twist lid opener.. the brush work.. and I admit to spitting on the wet polish to... and then moving to the next pair while those dried.. and the final buffing with a good brush.

    oh it was lovely

you know you're living too fast, working too hard and doing too many hours when cleaning your shoes brings such .....joy!

I quite like washing my car for similar reasons, but only if the weather is nice enough

But for the same reason, I don't often go away on holiday, the hassle just isn't worth it in my opinion.

I bought some art to resolve this Bit of an impulse buy whilst on holiday in the Isles of Scilly - but it was an anniversary and there was a nice painting. Arrived yesterday and hung above the bed. It's nice to just look at, and I can poke it and it's lumpy because it's a real painting

But yeah, get what you mean about the prep for doing simple relaxing things. 'Going for a nice walk with the other half' involves me having to drive somewhere out of the city first, and then having to drive back - not always a relaxing thing to do in an evening when you're tired from working.

I did sit in the park yesterday to eat my lunch, was very nice. Just enjoy what you can, when you can.

I used to work on a big technology estate. Getting out and sitting by a (admittedly man-made) lake with the ducks and trees for an hour to eat and unwind was so simple and satisfying.

You Sunshine, is getting OLD !!!!...................But I understand your point exactly..................I'm getting old also.

However when I first read the thread title and saw who started it I would have bet a tenner that it was going to be a comment about servicing a Land Rover !!!!

Pouring a glass of red wine into a big wine glass as soon as I get home on Friday. Just stand there, take a 2 deep sniffs, exhale and then a small sip...

I managed to open my back door, my patio door, my garage and a strong padlock with 2 bits of bent metal this afternoon. I'm now quite distrustful of locks in general...

Spent yesterday morning electro-fishing for Brown trout in an overgrown chalk stream before taking scale samples and submitting them for analysis. Rather enjoy my job!
