I like it, it's a less drastic change than when they refreshed the £20. The size is still odd, but they look a lot nicer than the tatty paper fivers still circulating

They are just ... odd. Also folding them isn't quite the same, which is good maybe. Just not used to them thats all.
When is that new £1 coin coming out?
I have one of each in my wallet. The new one is so dinky. It feels like toy money. I encountered foreign plastic notes some years ago. Leave them in your pocket and they do abrade - don't believe this guff about longer lasting. The plastic might survive, but the markings won't.
I think it's more that they are less likely to tare. Whilst paint might flick off, the holograms stay, they are easier for the machines to validate too, which I think is one of the main arguments against the older fabric ones, that when they get old they gunk up the machines.

Sure, they're in the post. You'll send them back, right?
Sure*. But I'll need you to answer some security questions first to prove your identity.
*commission may be deducted along with postage costs, and any other BS terms we can think to wrangle. We'll ask VM's team to compile some small print - they who think nothing of increasing prices 6-months into a supposedly fixed contract.
