    Moving companys!

Me and the family are going to be moving up to crewe from plymouth in the mid of next month to a bigger place

We Decided to look at pickfords for the move because they are well known and would do all the packing ect for us, when we rung them for a 'rough' quote we were told £600 + VAT and insurance (about £800 total) for the move (about 250 miles) from a 2 bed flat on second floor to a 3 bed house had a rep from pickfords call round for a quote he was here for less then 10 minutes in total then sent us a final price for £1400

imo this is over priced so we now have to start looking at other places to do the move for us, after the £600 quote we expected a max cost of £1000 inc everything
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

If there isn't much stuff, hire a van and move yourself. Certainly way cheaper, and is quite fun in some ways.

Done the 'self move' thing a few times locally but this is to big a move to do (family of 5) and with everything else having to do we dont have the time to do the move ourself.

I always hire a big van & do it myself. Best way imo.
Can do an average house in 2/3 trips I recon. Leave the kids at the wife's or my mums.

Yeah, but 2/3 trips for Barry will be a lot. Just ONE trip is 250 miles. Therefore, two trips is 750 miles. And if you're going to do a 3rd, well that well over 1000 miles. I've never owned a house before, but when my parents last moved 3 years ago, we moved into this house, and pretty much straight away, someone moved into our old one. Therefore, if that's the same with Barry, he won't be able to afford to have more than a day moving the stuff (That mileage will probably take 2 days minimum IMO).

Yeah it all has to be done in 1, we have 3 kids and the distance and cost makes a self move impossable
