That's without going into the philosophical and political aspects of intents and implications being the purpose rather than the function(s) of thing itself. It could also be argued that killing is not the most efficient or desirable purpose of a gun anyway, although in farming uses it may well be.
With the utmost respect - most of these points [the primary purpose of guns & their other uses vs that of cars/every other potentially lethal item under the sun] have been made here many times over & I think we can safely assume that those of us who have come to a settled personal conclusion on them either way are unlikely to come out of further debate with their minds changed. No animosity inherent in saying that.

Perhaps we can abide by the expressed (and, I'm sure, genuine) willingness to let each side have their opinion, as otherwise it's just going to be 'here, let me explain my standpoint again in ever so slightly different words, and I'm sure you'll get it this time.' I don't think any amount of 'discussion of weapons' is going to sway someone from an opinion which they can be presumed to have considered at length already.

Going to wrestle with my hoarding tendencies this w/e so if anyone wants to argue me out of enough stuff to render my living spaces actually liveable, I do wish you would.

    Re: This Weekend?

Ha, you think I mean good stuff? Stuff sane people would actually want? If only. Unless you like the bits of polystyrene that fit round old cd players [living] .. boxes from even older video players [deceased] .. books, that yes, I know I can get again for tuppence off Amazon if I absolutely regret parting with but this is the copy I bought at such-and-such when I was such-and-such.. and well, let's not get onto the inherited from 2 or 3 previous generations of hoarders' stuff [undead] ..

It's actual arm-twisting to part with things I need. 'You'll be senile/dead in a few years time, may as well sort through your own stuff before your relatives go poking through it' kinda psychology.

..Anyhow, you have projects? Large, actual ones you have actual room to work on? sigh. Anything cool?

    Re: This Weekend?

    Sammy. sounds like my family.

inherited/acquired so much stuff that parents got a full loft conversion to fit it all in. and the rooms are still kinda full of stuff.

this weekend, if its not raining ill be in the shed disassembling the 4 old computers in there. and before anyone asks I'm not going to be selling any of the bits on here.
unless you want ddr2 ram out of a computer that was hit by lightning, had a mouse nest in it, then pee over the motherboard and get electrocuted when it was turned on.

theres also a partially blown up PSU that shorted after a wasp flew in it.

ill probably just finish off the kilo bar of dairy milk. didn't manage that last weekend

    Pretty much.

See, that mouse probably would have sorted its mouse possessions/put its mouse affairs in order had it known - so - pretty good metaphor actually. Poor mouse though.

But yeah, you never know what someone else can use. I got a free digital caliper recently because the screen was smashed, the battery cover was lost and it had a loose microadjustment wheel... but it's still a working caliper.

Ya gots ta make room.... Not lots of room, just smart room. I used to live in a small studio flat, with another person and all her woman-junk, but still made space for all my projects. I now have an area not much bigger than before, but with power tools and machinery and stuff.

I'm working on something for my DM, actually and if I pull it off it will be his Christmas present. Something else in mind for the Mrs. Can't say yet, just in case one of them sees this, but will post pics if it turns out well enough.... and will never say a word about it if it doesn't work, as it'll mean I've wasted a *lot* of money on solid oak timber!!

And yet, all us crazy gun-nut types merely look over at our weapon collection and think, "Hmmm, another willing victim.... mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-haaahhhhhhh....!!"

There is actually a forum covering those Hexites who are deemed suitable for release among the general public, though: https://forums.hexus.net/hexus-social/

V true, & I do a fair bit of ebay when I can be bothered, but 99% of that is not even vaguely tech related. Good luck with Project Oak, if it all goes south, no-one will hear it from us.

Heading for New Mexico, to escape invading Americans!!

Nah, tidy up workshop-garage, a tip trip or two, a shopping trip to the Man Shop for to buy woods and tools and substances, the working of aforesaid woods with the aforementioned tools and substances... and likely spending the evenings watching ForgottenWeapons.com and videos of woodworkers with 50 years experience who can do far more amazing things than I could possibly imagine!!

Might get around to chucking some junk on eBay.

Lol.. I'm actually now living in Washington (State, not District). SeaTac is a great little airport! Check out 'Britishmuzzleloaders' for more youtube entertainment. The guy does some impressive things with a Baker.
