    I just use them interchangeably, although non-PC enthusiasts usually don't use 'tower' in my experience.

    I been using pcs 20 years almost so in my mind a desktop pc is one that sits on desk with monitor on top of a tower is a vertical case

    To me, I use "desktop" to cover anything that is not a laptop, tablet, or mobile device (such as a phone or phablet). To me "tower"=case. Whether it is a SFF, Slim, Mid, or Full-sized tower, they are all "desktop" PCs to me, since they are not portable. So if someone says tower, that is interchangeable with desktop in my mind.
