    Hong Kong

I'm headed over for a bit of a vaycay in a couple of weeks, and since we have a diverse community I though I'd ask if anyone has been and if there's anything you think I should see or, preferably, do?

    Any travel tips?

    Re: Hong Kong

I was there in October for work, so only had a day off. I went around the markets, of which there are many and in "districts", but quickly found them to get repetitive. Took the Star Ferry back across the river which was good and very cheap. Some people went to Victoria Peak, but it was very busy as mentioned on Trip Advisor. I got around on the Metro without any issues and was pretty straight-forward.

    Re: Hong Kong

I was in Hong Kong about 2 and a half years ago and had a great time, so colour me jealous!

Few bits of advice: the metro system is fantastic and good value for money. Copy what the locals are doing regarding queuing to get on and off and you'll be getting around in no time.

Literally everyone speaks English. Due to it being a previous British Colony and educational system being so that youngsters take English lessons from a very early age there shouldn't be a language barrier.

I would recommend visiting the harbour on a night time and watching the light show. It's really quite a pleasant way to spend a bit of time. We watched it from Victoria harbour, just fyi

As mentioned, Victoria peak is a bit of a tourist trap but when a mobile phone can capture the following on an overcast day, it should really be seen by eye.

If you can pre-book a guided bus tour then you might want to look into that. We went on one for about 4 hours and it drove us around Hong Kong Island and gave us a fantastic history of the place and plenty of interesting anecdotes! Similarly, we booked to have a little boat ride around Aberdeen Harbour which was great. There's also some nice markets around Aberdeen so if they take your fancy it might be worth a visit?

Sadly I was only there 3 full days and my first long haul flight I was feeling a bit winded but I would certainly get myself out and about as there is plenty to do and see! Have a great time

My final parting words are about food and lunches. If you feel like you want to get a bit of authentic food, perhaps a quick dinner, be very careful what you are order. As I found out, locals have a different approach to what counts as meat and what I would count as skin, or gristle. Apart from that, there is plenty of fantastic food! And if you're feeling adventurous the street food was tasty !

If you're after any photographic equipment while you're over there, head for Sin City - A complete Aladdin's cave over several floors of all the photographic gear and accessories you could want, from the latest stuff to vintage and unusual film gear. The entrance isn't particularly obvious though - https://goo.gl/maps/xLjvQBR4mMN2 Should be dead centre there.

The space museum was pretty interesting too.

    No one mentioned Dim Sum-day?

Food is amazing. If the weather is nice a short hike along the dragons back is good.

Of course got to mention: http://aviationclub.hk

    Re: Hong Kong

Been over 10 years since I last went (in fact I was there when the PS2 was released in Japan, had someone go and get one for me!)

The "Golden computer center" at Sham shui po was one of the highlights for me, the 10,000 Baddahs place was also worth a look, as was Stanley market.

If you walk down the mountain, there is a small outdoor zoo that will surprise you also.
