had to imdb it, but yep, he played Callie's dad in CSI Miami. Thought i recognised him. The BBC say he was in gladiator - NB that is the 1992 boxing one, NOT the Ridley Scott 2000 Roman one with Russel Crow
Not seen much of his work outside Home Alone, but I remember he had a couple of appearances in Battlestar Galactica. Looking through IMDB, he had a busy career. RIP

Hywel Bennett on the 25th July; seems to only be filtering into the news today.
His & David Ryall's pairing in the last two series of Shelley comes to mind, was of course working from the 60s on, long pre such things as EastEnders. Ryall, like Robert Hardy, being another who gets referred to as 'Harry Potter actor, so-and-so' after years & years of screen & stage roles.

Another sad loss, the Rhinestone Cowboy himself, Glen Campbell.
Died aged 81, after a long battle with Alzheimer's, according to BBC radio.
RIP, Glen.

Loved Brucie in his variety type stuff that was on Saturday evenings during the 80's & 90's, a true gent
Can't admit to having been much of a Brucie fan, certainly in his earlier career, mainly due to not being a game show fan, then or now.
I must admit he grew on me later on, largely due to his gentle self-mockery.
However, his sheer energy and longevity set him aside as one if the true greats of the broadcast TV era, and I've been aware of him as a TV personality since my very earliest childhood memories, and the world now seems to have a small but significant Brucie-shaped hole in it.
RIP, Sir Bruce, a true gent and an inimitable entertainer.
sentiment shared, but inimitable? Ahem...

or there's Colshaw
I didn't say some of his acts couldn't be imitated, but the he can't be. After all, he was entertaining the nation since before colour TV, before there was a BBC2, and even before we had a World War 2.
Clever enough those impressionists are, an impression is all you get, a glimpse, a hint, a very pale, imperfect copy of a very small part of the original.
