Contrat Terms and Conditions

Just wondering, in a set of terms and conditions wher it says something like "the company shall not be held responsible for failure of the product if..." and it lists things like war, Environmental disasters and all that.
Now, what the heck is an 'Act of God'...? a thunderbold?

always thought an act of god was something like a natural disaster or other natural phenomina like a lightning bolt

What if you don't believe in god? And if you do believe in god surely you must think everything is an act of god?

indeed. so what if you are from, say, one of those back-water small town american communities that are all god fearing? everything is an act of god. doesn't help T&C's!
