GBBO - Bake off .... opinions?

First, okay I admit it, I watch(ed) it.

There was something about the BBC version, apart from the travails of pressure baking. I think it was the deliberately tacky Mel & Sue repartee and inuendo which was tacky with consummate professionalism.

The new one is, well, a bit like watching a second-rate Abba tribute band - even a first-rate tribute still isn't Abba, and a second-rate one can be a travesty pastiche. Which is what I think of the new GBBO - a pastiche and a travesty

Oh well, if I need a 'fix', there's always re-runs.

I think it's ok, just the adverts that ruin it. Otherwise format has been largely retained. contrary to my initial assumption I actually think Noel Fielding does well and he gets a good raport with the contestants. Pru isn't Mary, but she's not a disaster. It's a shame it moved channel, but it isn't a travesty.

I don't know much about fancy French food, but that sounds like it might be yummy... Does it have a fruit filling?

Nah, the whole thing felt like everyone was forcing their buddy-ness with everyone else.
I gave up and watched Masterchef, before getting bored of Torode and Wallace, switching to Masterchef Pro and enjoying Michel Roux Jnr, but getting bored of the stuffy British format and going off to enjoy Masterchef Australia (damn, their prizes are so much better) and the trio of Gary, George and Matt!!

Re: GBBO - Bake off .... opinions?

It was never a 'must watch' for me, although I enjoyed it when I happened to see it.

But I rarely watch channel 4 anyway (or commercial channels, because of the ads) so I haven't seen the new series - and no compelling urge to do so.

Re: GBBO - Bake off .... opinions?

I tend to wander in when the other half is watching it, I'll get distracted for the duration of the "round". The earlier stages are funny because some of the work is terrible, and the later stages are good because everything is so.. good. I've seen a full episode of the "professional" version with teams - that was great.

I don't think I'd ever go out of my way to watch it, and in honesty the C4 version is as good as the BBC version from what I've seen. The one thing I can't stand is the awful clicky, wet eating sounds you hear when the judges are tucking in. The sound guy needs a slap.

It's alright, not as funny, seems to be being a bit of a try hard.
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.
