Turns out Alphacool have done the dirty on this guy and are refusing to own up to it.

Re: Modders "GOLD RUSH" severely damaged after Computex.

Basically, in a nut shell, a modder has dispatched a PC to Taipei, to be displayed at Computex, including many many mods and a lot of hard work. The PC was also watercooled.

Alphacool, who were responsible for returning the PC, just bundled it into a box, loosely, without draining the system and sent it back. The entire PC is essentially ruined

The modder also sold their existing rig to fund the project too.

It sounds like someone from alphacool has admitted fault, but not the company itself yet.
I'd not be surprised if this is sorted out, I cannot read the facebook posts at work, alphacool has been dragging their heels and looking like incompetent boobs, not instantly coming clean and sorting it out at once just makes matters worse

From a company perspective, it's quite possible that they don't know if they're legally liable or not. I can easily see this being a situation where someone who works for alphacool has said they'll make sure the PC is returned, but that person not having authority to speak for the company - so when things go wrong and the company legal and finance departments get involved, as far as they're concerned it's not their responsibility.

If the modder doesn't have a service contract with the company saying they're responsible for return shipping, then it's quite possible that legally it's not alphacool's problem but the individual who said they'd return it.

Nevertheless, I rather suspect that once the legal people at alphacool get to the bottom of it they'll, at the very least, make a "good will gesture" in some form. I just don't think this is likely to be as straightforward as alphacool entering a binding contract to return a PC and making a mess of it...

yes I fully understand that, that's why I said the company hasn't yet.
"looking like incompetent boobs" it's a load of bad publicity, regardless of legally responsible or not.
This is not a common situation you'll get every day or have hundreds of claims against you if you let one go, from a purely PR perspective they should of jumped on this, made it into a "Opps and this is why you don't ship watercooled systems filled." maybe add in "unless you use a sealed all in one unit like our new . . ."
People would of had a laugh and it would blown over fast with alphacool coming out looking better for it.

Well, yes, but why would the company accept liability if they're not liable?

The whole thing reeks of an individual screwing up then trying to cover their tracks. I'd want a lot more information about what's been going on before I wrote this down as an alphacool PR screw up - it sounds a lot like they've been dropped in it from a moderate height. We have no idea how many people at alphacool even knew about this. If a number of senior people at alphacool knew about this and were simply ignoring it then yes, that's a mess. But there's no indication of that in the information that's out there, and the modder only went public yesterday. That might have been the first a lot of people at alphacool knew about it...

Are you kidding me? The comments are normally better than the article. We used to have a game related to them on the daily mail when they wouldn't let us leave classrooms and we had nothing to do.
