    Am I quite mad?

I must be utterly insane. I haven't really done much in the way of exercise in the past 6 months or so - the odd bike ride here and there doesn;t really count.
so what did I go and do today?
I agreed to race in an eight as a fill in for a guy who's ill. ok so I'm better than this guy but I'm technically the coach so didn't mind all that much....well...
its about 10mins worth of rowing, and when you're fit thats quite tough, when you're not it gets interesting! so I relied heavily on my 10+yrs of competing to make sure I got technique right to last me the distance. thing is the guys I was rowing with aren't as well drilled in technique as I am, as a consequence I was getting my blade locked in (put the oar in the right place at my full reach) correctly. the other 7 rowers weren't
so in summary there were points where I carried the weight of 7 sizable blokes plus one migit (to cox)...in fact all the way down the course! and now my back is sore.
on the plus side, the head coach was watching me and was pleasently surprised - he's never seen me row cause I'v only ever coached - and said I looked the best ...shame I didn't feel too great by the time he saw us go by near the finish line as nearly 10mins of back-breaking work (literally) had gone before!

...I must be mad to do something like that after such a long time 'out of the saddle'! I hurt now : I...need...to...lie.........down....

Rowing is for psychopaths. Tried it once. Crazy sport really. Beer drinking and fruity's are better. Go and have a hot bath and a mug of tea!
    Not around too often!
