As of the withdrawal date, undertakings and organisations that are established in the United Kingdom but not in the EU, and natural persons who reside in the United Kingdom will no longer be eligible to register .eu domain names or, if they are .eu registrants, to renew .eu domain names registered before the withdrawal date.

As per the other thread - I reckoned the EU would take a punitive stance, on anything they could... !!

Re: .eu domains - brace yaself

To be honest, I'd already known about it for months.

I just didn't think it really mattered as I rarely see anyone actually using that domain extension.

Re: .eu domains - brace yaself

I'm not sure I'd class that as either petty or punitive. More as .... fairly obviou, as Inherent in the fact that we're not going to be in the EU, after we leave.

I'm not expert on domain rules, but it's rather like the restrictions on .gov, or .ac. If a domain is for a specific purpose, and has qualifying criteria, like for companies or individuals that are EU regustered or EU citizens then those that aren't, don't qualify

On the other hand, if citizens of or companies registered in the US, or Australia, or .... well, anywhere but the EU can register such domains and they're picking specifically on the UK, then yeah, it's petty.

But, as I understand it, all they're doing is pointing out that the same rule that applies to other non-EU people or organisations will also apply to us once we aren't in the EU.

How can we seriously expect anything else?

Re: .eu domains - brace yaself

Fairly obvious for most of it, but:
    a) Why would they not let existing websites renew/maintain a possibly well-known domain?
    b) If there really are so few such websites anyway, does it even need mentioning?

I have one more question and my question is that is it possible to get .co.uk extension without registering a real business?

Well, beaurocracy didn't earn it's reputation by being rational, and the Commission are arch-beaurocrats, if nothing else?

    A tiger can't change it's spots?

Put a pig in an Saville Row suit and Lobbs shoes and it'll still behave lime a pig?

I think I'd better stop there.

Yes and no, AFAIK you can't register for the TLD .uk even if you're a real business or person living in the UK, but you can register for a second level .co.uk or anything lower than that.

They do if they're dressed up as a leopard for a pantomime.

Or if they're very adolescent and have acne.

PS. Sorry mmh, didn't see you'd got there first.
