    Yes it's because of the labrador current https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labrador_Current the gulf stream pulls warm water up on our side of the Atlantic and the labrador current pulls cold water down on the Canadian side.

    The ice sheets break into burgs, get pulled south and then shunted back north
