Hi Hexusites
2019 October Edit: my time spent gaming
With 12 years on this Forum I thought I would reach out and ask you - so How do you spend your time online? Do you still enjoy it? What's changing?
For me, I love Hexus, I check it nearly every day. I did take long breaks in the past but it wasn't deliberate. I have come to many realisations and changed many things in my life Over the years and so I will try and stick to this site for some time to come. Thanks and You're Welcome )
Things I like to do online:
1) Email is King. GMail is just brilliant. I am on freecycle lists, I get updates from this and other websites, do banking, MoneySavingExperts weekly email, anyway it's 2017 I probably have no reason to go into this further
2) Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, I didn't get on these trains early and I don't use them much but its nice to keep up with friends and colleagues and be inclusive in life.
3) Reddit . Reddit is cool. It's a little random and a little NSFW but it's still interesting and polling it is like reading some kind of newspaper. Try it.
4) Hexus. Of course. I also participate in RC forums like Oople, msuk-forum but this is my main tech forum.
5) I have something cool for you to try - it's an open and free network of Social Media sites a little like a more advanced and less dodgy Facebook. It's called Mastodon. I'm quite new to it but it's fun and insightful and you tend to see posts by interesting and fun people. I'm on octodon.social as @plesuvius
6) Hmm this is getting tricky. I like the moneysavingexperts forum and the UKPersonalFinance subreddit. Hotukdeals I tend to check every day. I don't buy all that much but sometimes I bite. I've gotten tens of free books on my Amazon account thanks to them.
7!) I use Youtube a lot. I tend to follow a lot of Tech youtubers and also watch a lot of live concert recordings. It's also a great way to find good music and perhaps become a DJ?
8) ebay and Amazon are my main retailers but if I need something I'll generally look around and perhaps use comparison sites to actually find the cheapest source, including shippieing, as long as it doesn't seem too dodgy. I use Aliexpress and Gearbest too, haven't had too much trouble with them, customs and shipping insurance is a thing.
9) I have just this year foundd the community Health Unlocked and it's pretty brilliant. I would suggest going there and registering and following some communities. For many instance, there is professional help also available in the form of charities and healthcare organisations but this is a neat little resource and I'm posting there a fair bit now.
10) The BBC Radio 1 online stuff is pretty epic. Their Live Lounges don't disappoint, they interview a lot of interesting people. For music I would recommend initially the B.Traits shows. I haven't yet watched the new friday night music program on iPlayer
That's pretty much it, it's hard to summarise 20+ year of being online and I have given it a shot. Am I missing some cool stuff? Almost certainly, let me know, perhaps post your own summary?
That's all folks

11) I forgot Eve Online. It's pretty epic. I've been involved on and off since the Beta (that's way over a decade now). The community is fun as is the media. The game is great but it's like an afterthought lol. Enjoy!
12) If you are into your HIFI and even if you're really not, HiFi WigWam is pretty brilliant. I don't go there much any more though I have rather a good couple oos Sound Systems.

13: caffeine.tv looks very nice. Stream and webcam a good selection of games. Preview currently looks free they make money by selling chat 'gold' like twitch. Video Stream quality currently looks a little lower.
