    Angry Grrrrrrrrr....

I have just been having a chat with one of my users. The poor fellow's ordered a PC from a certain company of not un-Porsche-like name, recently placed into administration - not the best timing as it happens, but he ordered it over 6 weeks ago so I can't really hold that against him . Now, what annoys me is that they were happy to sell him a spec which included a Sharp TFT which had only just started rolling off the assembly lines, of which there were none in the country, and for which they had no date for expected arrival. Not that they told him that - they just told him it'd be there in 5 weeks (which is rather a long time to wait for a PC, but never mind...). In fact they had no idea WHEN the screens would arrive, and they still don't. Since their unfortunate fiscal situation led to their buyout by another company, he's had to deal with their reps, who have been giving him a RIGHT run around. First, they tried to change the warranty terms on him, then they've tried to ship him an analogue TFT instead of the DVI screen that he ordered - for the SAME PRICE, and tried telling him that there's no difference. Now my chap is not thick by any means, but he's not a techie, so he decided to have a chat with me, and as you can imagine I hit the roof.

Short version, I've advised him to cancel the order immediately and go to another manufacturer, but I felt the need to vent. No wonder people get miffed at computer manufacturers and resellers, when the average (bright, but not techie) punter is just treated as an opportunity for a rip-off.

When I was ordering my laptop from Dell, they wouldn't swap the 80gb 5400rpm drive for a 60gb 7200rpm one, they said "But why would you want that"... I told the Indian guy on the phone, that for the 'applications I needed to run, I needed speed not size'... He still wouldn't listen, and then told me no such drive exists... Unfortunately for him, someone I knew on the net had given me Dell's internet product number for the HDD, so I just told him that.....

Lets just say, the other end of the phone went very quiet......
