I've heard him twice on radio and both times I thought "if that had been a member of your staff, who couldn't get out because the switch was frozen solid, and they'd died, you'd not be smiling so much mate!"

but I'm a singularly miserable git

IIRC from many years ago in my youth the button not working on the inside of walk-in fridges/freezers gets you a big slap on the wrists from some authority or other who checks food establishments.

Re: Butcher batters his way out of -20C freezer with black pudding

Only time I have encountered walk in freezers, there was a flashing beacon on the outside of the freezer linked to the interior light, alerting anyone passing that there was someone in the freezer.

(Shame he didn’t use a frozen Yorkshire pudding - really would have battered his way out )

Must have been a terrifying situation to be in, good job there was something that was able to do the job.

Although I'd like to think that if it were me in that situation, it would turn out like Futurama.
