SecretSalesCodes £4.50 per month text from Mobtech **WARNING**

    Lo people

On Christmas Day a close member of my family received this text on her EE phone, which is pay monthly

FreeMsg: Thank you for subscribing to SecretSalesCodes for £4.50 per month from Mobtech until you send STOP to 60031 HELP? 02036085243

    followed by

Up to 60% Less On Fashion & Home Plus Free Delivery Over £75. Use code Discount Applied at http://tkmaxx.com Help: 0203 6085243 help@secretsalescodes.com

Now, having recieved lots of scammy texts, it was ignored

Until the invoice for EE arrived for showing £4.50 charge inc vat

She called EE and they said she had to pay it, and could unsubscribe by texting as per the instructions. She demanded they remove it manually as an ogoing charge which they did, but there's no refund currently on the £4.50.

She doesn't shop in TKMAXX and has never subscribed to any such thing. We have no idea who Mobtech are.

I found two legit moans about it online dated around Dec '17 but no where near as many as you'd expect... so....

    Be aware people.

EE won't give her the £4.50 back at the moment, though we will continue to chase that.

I've suggested she used the OFCOM website to put in a formal complaint and to ask EE to show the time when she subscribed to MOBTECH, either by call or text.

I even get the feeling that to text STOP would likey cost money?

Re: SecretSalesCodes £4.50 per month text from Mobtech **WARNING**

When things like this happen (other than knowingly signing up), it seems there are three options:

    1. It's a scam, and sending STOP will signal it as an active number
    2. It's legit, but someone signed up, entered the wrong number, and the service doesn't validate it properly
    3. It's legit, but was somehow signed up to without realising as a result of something else

The trouble is determining which is correct, so ignoring it was understandable.

In this case in particular, it wouldn't surprise me if the discount codes were public ones that anyone could easily find online for free via HUKD or similar sites, which would make it even more insulting.

Zak, could you please post a copy of what you've said to the Which? Conversation consumer discussion forum? I'm sure the regulars there would be very interested to know about this, and they could help a lot too

    hello

It's not my correspondance is, and so I'd not replicate it here. It's a family member and not me.

But the fact is, someone is having people's pants down with this.

We've had one chap report this on a works mobe, and he definitely didn't subscribe either. I've tipped off the people that look after our mobile contracts, and they're keeping an eye on the invoices, but this outfit are truly scuzzy.

The reason EE and the other useless scum that run our mobile networks take the attitude they do with these scammers is simple. They get a cut of the money. Whilst they are not part of the organisation of these scam, making less money is not high on their priority list.

It may be worth tweeting it out at @ee. The chances are publicly asking them about it will sort it out.
