    Its a Moose:

Don't ask me how they get into all these weird situations.

Not sure if a Moose facehugged you whether it would be much better TBH.

295X2 is the best card of its era, nothing else comes close. How many other cards were so good they made the competitor give up completely?

The 9700 PRO was probably the closest ATI/AMD ever got to an Athlon 64 moment over Nvidia.

ATI had fallen behind for two generations(IIRC) at that point and the Nvidia Geforce 4 ti was really popular and people had written them off. Then out of the blue the 9700 PRO came out on an old node, and people could not believe that that a GPU that size,on that node could clock so high. Nvidia then 6 months later released the FX5800 using a GPU on a new node. The only problem is it used a dual slot cooler(affectionately called the dustbuster),consumed more power, and utterly sucked at DX9.Even when they tried to fix it,it still sucked. Also dual slot coolers were really unhead of in that era for a graphics card, and it was ridiculously noisy for the era:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qspdnAYiiug

Then insult came to injury when a certain company called Valve released a game called Half Life 2 which was DX9,and Nvidia was utterly wiped out in performance,to the extent Valve had to downgrade IQ on Nvidia FX cards to try and up performance and they basically told people to use ATI cards for the game and partnered with ATI for the game. People accused Valve of crippling Nvidia cards, but it was done due the weird way they tried to do DX9. TWIMTBP came out of all of that,as did the Nvidia Focus Group(Rollo!) as it forced Nvidia to try improve developer relations and to be more aggressive in marketing.

Even,Nvidia poked fun at the card years later:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOVjZqC1AE4

It also lead to the only time in its history that ATI/AMD outsold Nvidia in cards. The Nvidia 6000 series was technically superior to the X800,but I get the impression people who bought the FX were so unhappy they ended up buying an ATI card when they replaced it. OTH,ATI then screwed it all up with delays to the X1800 series and Nvidia ended up regaining the lead again.

I believe we nominated the 9700Pro as 'Best Graphics Card Ever!!!!1'.

    https://forums.hexus.net/graphics-ca...card-ever.html

Still think the Voodoo2 needs an honourable mention.

    How can a fact offend?

Try mentioning how great Celtic are in a Rangers pub.

Or the wonders of the British army in an IRA pub. Or vice-versa.

Or ..... well, you get the idea. Context, sir, context.

Having just moved to a suburb of Glasgow, and being about 5 minutes away from Ibrox, I fully understand this!

It's more like someone who was a Celtic fan in a Celtic pub after their modern team didn't reach the semis of the league saying a team from X years ago who did was better and was paid less. Then another purported fan threatened fisticuffs since he had Celtic branded wallpaper, soap, underwear, etc and then arguing they were better and started following you to another pub the next day....and always saying each year it was the best team ever despite what happened. Plus he was older than you.
