My wife works in Fife (Royal Vic Hos) and she has driven in (we live in Alloa). I am trying to get her to come home now... People at hospitals don't get off when the rest of us do. They are expected to travel ins severe weather, unfortunately.

Closed tomorrow again . . . .Interestingly, still not a lot of snow in Clackmannanshire, despite being in a red warning now...Maybe it just hasn't arrived yet . . . .

Whelp, that was the storm I was hoping for. The snow was a bit powdery and wouldn't make a decent snowball, but it's made some nice snowdrifts on the cars on my street. Probably 2-3", which given this is the first proper snow in southampton for about 4 years (IIRC) isn't bad. I'd rate it 7/10, for being colder than it needed to be
well it finally snowed yesterday, well snowed enough for it to settle.
traffic was solid, I live on a road which is a bit of a short cut but also a bit of a slope, it was funny to watch people try to skip the round about by going up our road get about 10m up it and then slide back down.
Also makes you realise how few people seem to have the first clue about snow driving.
Everyone who made it just slowly crept up, everyone who slid would gun it at the start and again when their wheels started loosing traction.

I've encountered so many idiots over the last couple of days, most of which are driving 4x4 vehicles with unsuitable tyres. Been scooting around with the Golf, relying on the TCS system. Done an absolutely stirling job!
Loads of tiny little city cars skipping over the snow too, barely leaving grooves as they go!
One of the pleasures of the snow is watching clueless BMW drivers* sliding the back end all over the place. RWD+power+wide tyres is not great for snow driving.
*I'm not saying all of them are clueless, but the ones that are cause entertainment. Applies to other RWD vehicles too, just BMWs are the most common.
My BMW is rubbish in the snow - just didn’t go out for two days.

I had a 3 series estate in front of me coming out of the station on Friday night, managed to almost drift the whole length of the road due to over-revving it. Then a Range Rover Evoque decided to drive the whole of the rest of the way without any lights on. Do automatic lights get fooled by snow or something?
And yes, I have also noticed that 4x4 drivers are the worst on snow, either being overconfident and spinning up all over the place, or being overcautious and driving at 2mph.
My uncle's house.
Snow's all gone, now.
We got up to maybe 10" and most people hid away at home, but my duffed-up '03 Škoda did me proud and saw me safely bimbling all around town.

8" of fresh powder just up the road... I was rough, but I spent the day skiing again...
