Dear Mother Nature - please sort yourself out

    Dear Mother Nature

One week ago I had a log stove burning bright, 3 layers of clothing and was looking forward to a proper beef stew.

One week before that I was in shorts and loose t shirt. A beef stew was laughable.

Today, at 25'C and 48% humidity, we're back to the seesaw of ridiculous tempteratures again

So, Mother Nature, please sort your self out.

lovely sunshine this morning, the sun burning my eyes.
now the ducks are swimming around on the lawn because its been raining a whole bunch for last 4 hours.

    now its 88% humidity and 13C https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2637343

at least my computers warmed my room up to a nice 21C, or so says my fancy clock.

Re: Dear Mother Nature - please sort yourself out

I take the view that a good varied weather pattern is generally good for plants, crops, woods that kind of thing. The UK benefits from some amazing soil and a perhaps increasingly good environment for plants, and therefore food.

I enjoyed a good couple of days picnicking (thanks Reddit!) over the weekend and while temps are dropping a little in London there's only a slight chance of rain tomorrow morning and it should otherwise be dry until Friday. And warm *enough* ....

Of course it's hard to pick what to wear or how much to use the boiler.

Only good thing about this kind of weather is all the braais and barbecues, really.
I love that it's not raining, but it's also kinda too hot to do anything without getting drenched in sweat, now... and it's right when I have lots of laborious jobs to do!

This hot weather seems to have affected the swear filter - however it has now been corrected and words had in appropriate ears

I'm just back from a weekend camping down in Devon - absolutely glorious - bring it on!

Its not Ma Natures fault! I'm sure her feedback system is perfect for what she desires, just that short term-ism in a species who thinks above its station has thrown things out of kilter.
I often wonder what would happen in the world if:
    All bottled and stored water was returned to the water cycle;
    Rivers were no longer managed, no maintenance, no new flood defences;
humans no longer existed; how long would 'recovery' take?

Glimpses of this in places like Chernobyl and Fukushima show that nature can find a balance itself very quickly.

In the first instance, nothing, other than a lot of plastic waste. The bottled and stored water is a literal drop in the ocean.

In the second instance, it would have significant local effects, but no influence globally. Diverted rivers are just too minor compared to global weather patterns.

Rivers account for just 0.0002% of water on Earth, they have very little influence. The total liquid freshwater is comfortably under 1%, when it comes to weather only the oceans really matter.

It's also questionable what type of nature or hybrid of, is taking over Chernobyl and Fukushima. Although in other places less contaminated hb has a point. I know this is an ongoing debate that zak didn't intend, but humans will probably wake up to what they are doing in terms of taking the resources of the Earth and after mass consumption, dump the waste somewhere; land, sea, atmosphere; about ten minutes before the ecosystem goes into meltdown.

I wonder if the colonisation and commercialisation of space(in progress at present) will speed up our finding of another habitat when this is barren. Meanwhile the UK is apparently becoming more tropical, we better enjoy it while we can, 'make hay while the sun shines' or some such cliche.

Thank-you for that, Alexa. Good to know you're always listening...

But if you know that much, you surely also know that there is a WORLD of difference between the UK's idea of a barbecue, and the South African's idea of a braai... and that the two are not the same thing, hence my use of both terms?

Woe betide you if there's an actual Boertjie at yer braai and you don't get it right...

I only posted the definition because I had to look it up, to help readers. I actually don't really know what a braai is. I wasn't criticising your post or use of both terms in any way.

Just making fun of the Alexa/Siri/Cortana dictionary style - Quite topical of late.

The exact nature of your braai depends on which part of SA you're from, as opinions can be quite opposing - The basic differences from a UK barbie are:

    - ANY event is a good excuse for a braai - Birthday, promotion, Summer arrives, new game release, your team wins... anything.
    - The Rugby is usually on.
    - Men stand around the fire. Females go over there, somewhere...
    - The fire is fuelled by wood, and sometimes charcoal.
    - The fire is usually an open fire*, in a pit, or in a 50gal oil drum cut in half.
    - Meat. Lots of meat. Typically steak, pork chops and boerewors. Sometimes lamb as sosaties (skewers).
    - NO chicken... unless it's beer can chicken.
    - Burgers and sausages are allowed only if there are kiddies present.
    - There is NO fish option..... unless you're down near Cape Town, in which case fish is essential. Much debate occurs over this.
    - There is NO veggie option. Ever. Full-on vegans turning up might actually get shot.... !
    - Steak will be done rare or medium-rare. Anything further and you are perfectly capable of ruining the meat at your own house. No need to bring that heresy to the braai**
    - Men do the meat. Females sort out the bread, mielepap and so on. Salad is usually potato salad. Occasionally something green and leafy appears, which the men bother with only because the females went to all the effort of preparing it.
    - The braai fire gets lit when people start getting hungry... but they are not allowed to get hungry until you've first gone through the requisite 12 bottles of brandy.

Some quick, light hearted viewing on the matter:

*Best for potjiekos, which is like a stew done in a cast iron cauldron (potjie pot)
**I like my steak Medium-Well, so simply challenge the Braaimaster's ability to cook it thus and they usually shut up!
